Anambra State Government Demolishes Convicted Native Doctor, Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki’s Shrine



Anambra State Government has demolished the shrine of a native doctor, Chukwudozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, following a High Court judgment delivered on Friday, February 27, 2026, in Awka, the state capital.

The demolition was carried out by operatives of the state security outfit, Agunechemba, and supervised by Ben Emeakayi, Special Adviser to the governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on Community Security.

The massive shrine, which contained native pots, pictures of persons, moulded images, clothes, and other ritual objects, was dismantled piece by piece and set ablaze after the exercise.

A High Court sitting in Awka, presided over by Justice Jude Obiora, had on the same day sentenced Nwangwu to 11 months imprisonment for involvement in ritual practices known as oke ite and other offences.
