Protesters have burned vehicles and buildings allegedly belonging to foreign nationals in protest against the installation of a Nigerian king in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. According to Monday’s report from an online media outlet, Newzroom Africa, “There is escalating violence in KuGompo City, Eastern Cape, where protesters torched foreign-owned vehicles and buildings in response to the controversial coronation of an Igbo traditional leader as local king, organized by the Nigerian community.” The unrest was reportedly triggered by the controversial installation of Nigerian Igbo leader Solomon Ogbonna Eziko as “Igwe Ndigbo” on March 24, 2026, which Eastern Cape authorities deemed disrespectful to local traditions and sovereignty. DHQ Reacts To Reports That Repentant Terrorists And Killers Are Being Recruited Into Nigerian Military

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed reports suggesting that repentant terrorists and bandits are being recruited into the Nigerian military. The DHQ, in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja by the Coordinator, Operation Safe Corridor, Brigadier General Yusuf Alli, described as false, some trending reports which claimed repentant terrorists were being mobilized into the military through the back door. “We are not recruiting any killers into the army, and we can never do that,”  General Alli said. He also dismissed fears that repentant terrorists who were de-radicalized and reintegrated into society are now allegedly turning into informants for Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists and sabotaging the efforts of the military in the Northeast. Senate Approves President Tinubu’s $6 Billion Loan Request

The Nigerian Senate has granted approval for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to secure external loans totaling $6 billion. The approval is coming barely four hours after the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read the letter from the President, seeking the approval. The red chamber of the National Assembly approved the loans after the presentation and consideration of a report by the Senator Aliyu Wamakko-led Committee on Local and Foreign Debts. It was earlier gathered that President Bola Tinubu’s loan request was contained in two separate letters addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio which was read during plenary on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. In  the first letter, Tinubu requested the approval to establish a structured total return swap (TRS) external financing programme of up to $5 billion with First Abu Dhabi Bank of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). President Tinubu Writes To Senate For Approval To Borrow Fresh $6 Billion

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Nigerian Senate requesting approval to secure a $5 billion loan. The letter was read out to the lawmakers by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. The loan, which will be obtained from Abu Dhabi Bank, is to be used for budget deficit and debt financing, among others. In another letter to the Senate, Tinubu is seeking approval to borrow $1 billion UK/EF loan facility from London Citi Bank for the rehabilitation of port projects, including Lagos Port complex and Tin Can port. Akpabio referred the letters to the Senator Aliyu Wammakko-led Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts to carry out legislative actions on the request and report back immediately.

  Security personnel from the Airport Police Command have apprehended a 14-year-old boy, Eke Miracle, who allegedly tried to enter the restricted aircraft zone at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State.   Nollywood actor, Azubuike Michael Egwu, popularly known as Zubby Michael has stirred reactions after urging Christians in Jos, Plateau State, to leave the city. The Nigerian government has obtained agreements for ambassador-designates from ten countries. They are: United Kingdom, Senegal, Qatar, Ireland, France, United States of America, Benin Republic, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia and Djibouti. The federal government is still awaiting responses from other countries. According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimibie Ebienfa, the date for the Induction Ceremony will be announced in due course once it is finalized and confirmed by the Presidency. This comes amid rumours that Germany have rejected a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode. Fani-Kayode has already debunked the speculations as “fake news.”

  The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has postponed all examinations slated for Monday and Tuesday due to rising tension in the city after a deadly attack in the Anguwan Rukuba community of Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau State. The institution’s management also urged students and staff to remain indoors and stay vigilant as security concerns persist in the area. In a statement issued on Sunday, the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations of the university, Emmanuel Madugu, said the decision was taken due to the tension created by the incident, which occurred in a community where many staff members and students reside.
