Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President, Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the forthcoming Osun State governorship election amid concerns over possible violence and disruption of the electoral process. Davido  made the appeal in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, as political activities intensify ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state. In the message  addressed directly to President Trump, the singer said he was calling his attention to the situation in Osun State as the election approaches. He said there were growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process. Veteran Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, has unveiled a new spiritual movement, the New Wine Prophetic Tabernacle (NWPT). Dikeh announced the development on Sunday in a post on her Instagram page, describing NWPT as an interdenominational altar and a “global movement of consecrated believers” committed to experiencing the power, purity and presence of God. The  movement is anchored on Mark 2:22 of the Bible, which states: “And no one puts new wine into old wineskins.” According to the actress, NWPT is intended to serve as a dwelling place for believers who seek a deeper Christian experience and are unwilling to settle for what she described as “lukewarm Christianity.” “NWPT  exists as a dwelling place of His presence for those who refuse to settle for lukewarm Christianity and are hungry for genuine revival, fire, and transformation,” the statement read in part. A Nigerian Army Colonel, Mohammed Ma’aji, has disclosed the main reason he planned a coup to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It was gathered that  Ma’aji said worsening insecurity, corruption and economic hardship were among the grievances discussed by those allegedly involved in the failed coup. Ma’aji stated that discussions about military intervention began in 2023, towards the end of the administration of former President, Muhammadu Buhari. “Things  particularly got out of control towards the end of Buhari’s administration when corruption and nepotism became the order of the day,” he stated. The father of Nigerian musician, Afunso Ridwan Abiola, popularly known as Rolex Dee, has passed away after hearing reports regarding his son’s deteriorating health in police custody. The  development was disclosed by the singer’s mother in a video circulating on social media, where she revealed that the father collapsed following reports that their son was vomiting blood while in detention. According  to her account, the deceased had recently joined her to appeal for the singer’s release to fellow musician Taye Currency. The arrest reportedly followed a public dispute and fallout between Rolex Dee and Taye Currency. In the  video recorded at the funeral, the singer’s mother appealed to the police and public figures for assistance in securing her son’s release so he can receive medical attention, noting that he was unable to attend his father’s burial due to his continued detention.

Veteran Nigerian music legend, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba and Nollywood actress, Annie Macaulay have refollowed each other on Instagram. The  development came amid the singer’s alleged marital crisis with new wife, the Edo State lawmaker, Natasha Osawaru. The  crisis intensified after Natasha’s latest public confrontation with the singer over the weekend at an Abuja nightclub. After  the incident, 2Baba unfollowed Natasha who is still following him, and refollowed his ex-wife, Annie. On Sunday, it was also gathered that Annie Macaulay also refollowed 2Baba back. In January 2025, the veteran singer announced the end of his 13 years of marriage with Annie. He married Natasha Osawaru in a traditional ceremony in July 2025.

Sir Joseph Ezeokafor,  who is also the father of Nigerian Instagram celebrity Jowizaza, was allegedly abducted last week while praying on a mountain in Awka, according to lawyer Chukwudi Iwuchukwu. Iwuchukwu made the disclosure in a Facebook post on Sunday, claiming that the businessman had gone to the mountain alone to pray without his security details and police personnel attached to him. According  to him, Ezeokafor was allegedly abducted by unidentified gunmen during the prayer session and taken to an unknown location. The reported abduction has reportedly thrown the businessman’s community, Ekwulobia, into confusion and mourning.   Nigeria’s Super Falcons suffered a devastating 1-0 defeat to Cameroon’s Lionesses in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), ending their hopes of defending the continental title and qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Cameroon scored in the 19th minute to secure a narrow victory and send the Super Falcons out of the competition at the quarter-final stage. The  defeat means Nigeria will not be among Africa’s four automatic representatives at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, as only the four WAFCON semi-finalists earn direct qualification tickets to the global tournament. For the Super Falcons, the result represents a major setback after their impressive run to the continental title in the previous edition. MTN Nigeria has warned subscribers against fraudulent platforms and links offering fake 25GB anniversary giveaways, even as the telecommunications company confirmed that the 25GB data reward is genuine. The warning followed the circulation of messages and links on social media and other online platforms claiming to offer subscribers free 25GB data to mark MTN’s 25th anniversary. In a scam alert, MTN urged customers to disregard such offers unless they were accessed through its authorized platforms. The telecom operator said the official MTN 25GB Anniversary Giveaway was available only through the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop. It cautioned subscribers against clicking on unverified links, disclosing personal information or making payments on platforms claiming to offer the anniversary giveaway. “Please beware of fake MTN 25th Anniversary 25GB giveaway offers circulating online,” MTN warned.   Nigerian music legend, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has unfollowed his new wife, Natasha Osawaru on Instagram. The  development came a few hours after Natasha attempted to obstruct 2Baba performance at the opening of a nightclub in Abuja on Friday. According to the account circulating on social media, Natasha allegedly arrived at the venue with some thugs and approached the singer’s vehicle before the intervention of the police. Following  the public confrontation, 2Baba was said to have informed Natasha on Friday that he was no longer interested in continuing their relationship. It was gathered that on  Sunday morning, 2Baba has unfollowed her on Instagram, while Natasha is still following him. This  came nearly two months after the African Queen singer left their marital home and blocked Natasha from reaching him.
