  The  widow of late Nollywood actor, John Okafor, Stella Maris Okafor, has dismissed allegations that she secretly sold her late husband’s properties and kept the proceeds to herself. Recall that the family of the late actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, recently opened up about their struggles and financial situation. Nollywood actor, Joseph Momodu, has announced his enlistment into the United States Army, describing the milestone as a tribute to his late father and the result of months of rigorous physical and mental training. The actor shared the announcement in a post on his official Instagram page on Friday, revealing that he successfully completed 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, before graduating as a Specialist in the U.S. Army. Explosion Kills 2 People In Nekede, Owerri, Imo State

An  explosion which occurred inside a large drainage channel located at No.1 Old Nekede Road opposite Lakeside Hotel in Owerri West Local Government Area has killed two persons suspected to be scavengers. The  Imo State Police Command, in a statement released by the apokesperson, Henry Okoye, said it has launched an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the explosion. Okoye hinted that operatives of the Command, acting on a report from residents within the area, immediately mobilized to the scene, cordoned off the area, and deployed operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit to secure and thoroughly sweep the scene. Court Sentences A 32-Year-Old Man To 20 Years Imprisonment For Raping 85-Year-Old Woman In Kano State

A  Kano State High Court has sentenced a 32-year-old man, Muhammad Zulfalalu, popularly known as “Mai Siket”, to 20 years imprisonment for raping an 85-year-old woman in Kiru Local Government Area of the state. Justice  Aisha Mahmoud delivered the judgment after finding the defendant guilty of a nine-count charge bordering on rape and housebreaking, holding that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The court sentenced Zulfalalu to 20 years imprisonment for rape and an additional six years for housebreaking. Both sentences are to run concurrently. The court also awarded ₦500,000 compensation to the victim. According  to the prosecution counsel, Aisha Adamu, the offences were committed between August 2019 and June 2020 at Gidan Kwano, Kwanar Dangora, in Kiru LGA. The  family of late Nollywood actor and comedian, John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu has opened up about the difficult situation they have faced after his death. Speaking during a recent visit by content creator, King Mitchy, the family revealed that Mr Ibu’s only daughter and two sons have dropped out of school due to their financial situation. According to the family, they have also been living without electricity and running water for weeks because they cannot afford the bills. The  children’s mother disclosed that life has been difficult for them. “We fetched water from the well because I have not paid the house rent, they even cut my light since two months now, no light since we have been like that every night we go to look for where to charge our phones and it’s not easy, she said.   A  23-year-old British social media influencer has been charged with murder in Dubai and faces the death penalty by firing squad, according to human rights group Detained in Dubai. Brooke George, a former shop assistant from Gravesend, is accused of fatally stabbing a 26-year-old fellow Briton understood to be William Treeby, also originally from Kent with a kitchen knife in his luxury apartment. The two are said to have met through social media during an earlier trip to Dubai. Second Batch Of 66 Nigerians Evacuated From South Africa Arrives In Lagos

The Federal Government has repatriated another 66 Nigerians from South Africa as part of ongoing efforts to assist citizens affected by recent xenophobic attacks in the country. The returnees, who formed the second batch of evacuees, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday. Their return is part of the evacuation exercise approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following renewed attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa. The latest evacuation comes after the first batch of 258 Nigerians arrived in the country on June 11 aboard a chartered Air Peace flight. Confirming the latest development to the newsmen on Thursday, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Kimiebi Ebienfa, said 66 persons were repatriated in the second phase of the exercise. United States Court Sentences Anambra Local Government Area Chairman To Five Years Imprisonment For Wire Fraud

  A United States District Court in Tacoma, Washington, has sentenced a 42-year-old Nigerian national, Franklin Ikechukwu Nwadialo, to five years in prison for his involvement in a multi-million dollar online fraud scheme. Franklin Ikechukwu Nwadialo,  who was elected as the chairman of the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State in September 2024, was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at an airport in Texas upon his arrival in the United States later that year. The sentencing followed a December 2023 indictment charging him with 14 counts of wire fraud related to an online romance scam that defrauded eight victims of approximately $3.5 million over 15 years. During the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge Tiffany M. Cartwright described the financial and emotional impact on the victims as devastating, noting that the scheme caused significant personal isolation and distress. Musk's net worth has now fallen to about $957 billion. Earlier this month, Musk briefly became a trillionaire after SpaceX launched its historic IPO and the company's valuation crossed $2 trillion. The stock had reached an intraday high of $225 on 16 June, but later dropped to around $156 by Tuesday's close. This means SpaceX shares fell more than 30% from their recent peak. A former British Airways pilot has been sentenced to eight years and four months in prison after grooming and sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl he met online. Kwame Yeboah, 30, a Ghana-born ex-England youth basketball player, contacted the victim through video chat site Omegle before continuing explicit conversations on Instagram. He later drove from Berkshire to Merseyside, where he twice raped the girl in his car after checking into a hotel. Liverpool Crown Court heard Yeboah emotionally manipulated the child, persuading her to meet him despite clear signs of her young age, including references to school tests and images in uniform. He admitted three counts of rape of a child under 13 and one count of assault by penetration.
