Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma Confirms Move To Resign And Contest For Imo West Senatorial Seat Bid

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has confirmed his intention to leave office before the expiration of tenure and contest for the Imo West Senatorial seat in 2027 elections, declaring that he was answering a renewed call to serve his people at the National Assembly.

Uzodinma made this known in a statement posted on his official Facebook handle on Sunday, where he said the people of Imo West Senatorial District had once again called on him to represent them, a responsibility he has accepted with “utmost humility, sincerity of purpose, and unwavering commitment.”

“My dear people of Imo West Senatorial District have once again called upon me to serve, and I have accepted this noble call,” he said, signalling a major political shift that could see him exit the Imo State Government House before the end of his tenure.

The governor disclosed that he has already presented himself before the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its Screening Committee for the National Assembly primary election, formally declaring his interest in the senatorial race.

According to him, his ambition was anchored on loyalty to the party and a commitment to advancing its ideals.

He emphasized that the senatorial seat ultimately belongs to the APC, while he remains “only a loyal and dedicated candidate entrusted with the responsibility of projecting and advancing the ideals, vision, and aspirations” of the party.

Uzodinma also used the opportunity to commend the APC for what he described as its “steadfast commitment to purposeful leadership, people-oriented governance, and the delivery of democratic dividends” across Nigeria, adding that party members must work collectively to sustain and deepen its mission.

Tying his senatorial ambition to national politics, the governor said his decision was inspired by a desire to support and consolidate the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“My aspiration to represent the good people of Imo West Senatorial District at the Red Chamber is inspired by the desire to consolidate on the gains of the Renewed Hope administration,” he stated, promising quality representation, effective legislation, and sustainable development.

While Uzodinma did not explicitly state a resignation date, his declaration strongly indicated plans to vacate his current position to pursue the senatorial seat, setting the stage for a significant political transition in Imo State ahead of the next election cycle.
