Woman Banished After Being Accused Of Selling Her Sister-In-Law's Son For ₦800,000 In Imo State

A woman has been expelled from Umekpu village in Ogbaku, Mbaitoli Local Government Area, after being accused of selling her sister-in-law’s son for ₦800,000. According to sources, the village leadership took swift action after the matter came to light, declaring her persona non grata in the community. A video which emerged on Thursday shows the woman being escorted out of the community by a crowd of villagers singing derogatory songs and taunting her. Speaking in the footage, one of the community leaders gave the reason behind the decision to banish the woman. "We are banishing her from our community, Umekpu Village, Ogbaku, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State,”  the man said. “She sold her sister-in-law’s son, that is the son of her brother’s wife, for ₦800,000 and for that reason, we have to banish her.”

Anambra State Government has demolished the shrine of a native doctor, Chukwudozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, following a High Court judgment delivered on Friday, February 27, 2026, in Awka, the state capital. The demolition was carried out by operatives of the state security outfit, Agunechemba, and supervised by Ben Emeakayi, Special Adviser to the governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on Community Security. The massive shrine, which contained native pots, pictures of persons, moulded images, clothes, and other ritual objects, was dismantled piece by piece and set ablaze after the exercise. Nwangwu was arraigned alongside two other native doctors, Eke Hit and Onye Eze, over allegations bordering on money rituals, oke ite and preparation of charms for criminals, among other offences.   The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Oyo State Command has apprehended a visitor for attempting to smuggle suspected hard drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Agodi, Ibadan.
