A  British-Nigerian  taxi driver, Kolawole Erunkulu, has been sentenced to six years in prison in the United Kingdom after falling asleep at the wheel and causing a crash that killed a 59-year-old man in Surrey. Erunkulu, of Bexleyheath, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Tuesday, August 25, after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. According to Surrey Police, the fatal crash occurred shortly before 6:30am on Sunday, August 17, 2025, on the A23 in Merstham. The victim, identified as Philip Dray, had safely parked his Volkswagen in a roadside layby to take a break and was opening the driver’s door to return to his vehicle when Erunkulu’s Audi crossed into the layby and struck him. Dray died at the scene. CCTV footage obtained during the investigation showed the Audi’s nearside wheels crossing completely over the white lines into the layby before the vehicle corrected its course following the collision. The Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service has arrested a woman, Iyabo Sowunmi, for allegedly attempting to smuggle suspected illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta. The contraband was intended for her son, Dare Sowunmi, who is currently on death row at the facility. The spokesperson of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ogun State Command, Olayinka Odukoya, disclosed the incident in an official statement on Monday, August 31, 2026. According to Olayinka Odukoya, Iyabo Sowunmi was intercepted at approximately 1:33 PM on Friday, August 28, 2026, during a routine screening exercise at the facility’s main entrance. Security personnel discovered that the substance, suspected to be a potent psychoactive synthetic drug commonly known as Colos, was cleverly concealed inside a sachet of beverage powder (Milo).   On Monday, August 31, 2026, a Las Vegas court has found former street gang leader, Duane Davis, popularly known as  Keffe D  guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon killing an American rap icon, Tupac Shakur in 1996. The jury  convicted the 63-year-old on one count of murder with a deadly weapon, marking the first conviction in the high-profile cold case nearly 30 years after the drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. Prosecutors  established that Davis, a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips, ordered the attack and provided the weapon used by his nephew, Orlando Anderson, to fire at Shakur. The court heard that the shooting was carried out in retaliation for a fight involving Tupac Shakur and Anderson hours earlier.
