“I Regret Going To Big Brother, Even Though I Love The Benefits” – Mercy Eke

Big Brother Naija season 4 winner and entrepreneur, Mercy Eke has candidly admitted that she regrets participating in Big Brother Naija, even as she acknowledges the significant opportunities the show brought into her life.

In a recent episode of Toke Moments with Toke Makinwa, she opened up about the intense personal toll of sudden fame.

“I regret going to Big Brother, even though I love the benefits that come from it,” she stated.

Mercy described the difficulty of readjusting to normal life after the intense spotlight of the reality show.

She eventually relocated abroad to escape constant scrutiny and rebuild a sense of privacy, taking on regular work while adapting to a new environment.

While crediting the platform for elevating her career as an entrepreneur and public figure, the media personality highlighted the overwhelming downsides of celebrity in Nigeria.

She observed that public frustration often gets projected onto successful individuals, explaining: “A lot of people are living through you… they wish to be you [and] channel the anger that they should have taken to God to bless you.”

Her reflections shed light on a common but rarely discussed paradox of reality television fame in Africa: rapid wealth and visibility accompanied by intense pressure, loss of anonymity, and emotional strain.
