Burna Boy And Shakira Make History As World Cup Anthem “Dai Dai“ Hits No. 1 On Billboard
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has made music history after his official FIFA World Cup 2026 collaboration with Colombian pop icon, Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, popularly known as Shakira, titled “Dai Dai,” rose to the number one spot on the Billboard Global 200 chat.
For the July 3 to July 9, 2026 tracking week, the anthem climbed to the top of the global chart. The track also held its position at number one on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart for a third consecutive week, making it the first official World Cup song to lead either chart since they were launched in 2020.
According to data from music tracking firm Luminate, “Dai Dai” recorded 41.5 million streams globally during the tracking period—representing an eight percent increase week-on-week—and sold 6,000 units. Outside the United States, the song pulled in 37.1 million streams and sold 4,000 units.
This achievement marks Burna Boy’s first-ever number one song on the Billboard Global 200 chart. Shakira, on the other hand, is celebrating her second time at the top of the chart, having previously reached number one with her hit track “TQG” alongside Karol G in March 2023.
The Grammy-winning Nigerian singer and Shakira previously performed the hit song live to an audience of over 80,000 football fans during the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony on June 11, at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
The global tournament runs through Sunday, July 19, 2026, with a historic halftime show featuring Shakira, Justin Bieber, BTS, and Madonna scheduled for the final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
On the wider Billboard Global 200 chart, Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me” dropped to number two after two weeks at the top, while Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” rose to number three. Michael Jackson’s classic “Billie Jean” held firm at number four, and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Stupid Song” dropped to number five.
On the Global Excl. U.S. chart, South Korean boy band BTS remained at number two with their track “Swim,” followed by Ariana Grande at number three, Michael Jackson at number four, and Justin Bieber’s “Beauty and a Beat” featuring Nicki Minaj at number five.
