Man Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting A Woman For Rejecting His Advances In Abuja

A man accused of assaulting a young woman after she rejected his advances has been arrested by the police in Abuja, following widespread outrage over a viral video of the incident.

The arrest comes a day after the woman shared an emotional video alleging that the older man slapped her for refusing his request to get to know her.

According to updates shared online, the suspect was traced to his location, where he reportedly tried to evade arrest by hiding from officers before eventually being apprehended. 

Videos circulating on social media show the man apologising after he was found, but the apology did not prevent officers from taking him into custody.

Reacting to the arrest, the woman reiterated the importance of respecting consent, writing: “No means No, and the sooner some men start respecting women’s boundaries, the better our society will become.”

The incident has sparked widespread conversations on social media, with many Nigerians applauding the swift arrest while calling for justice and stronger enforcement against gender-based violence and harassment.

The case has also reignited discussions on the need to respect women’s personal boundaries, with many users stressing that rejecting romantic advances should never result in violence or intimidation.

Police are expected to continue investigations into the incident.

  The Uni ted States House of Representatives has approved an amendment seeking to withhold 100 per cent of the U.S. assistance to Nigeria until the country takes stronger measures to address violence and alleged persecution of Christians. The amendment, sponsored by the U.S. Congressman Gregory Steube, was adopted through a voice vote on Wednesday and attached to the fiscal year 2027 State Department spending bill, which was later passed by the House by 217-209 votes, largely along party lines.
