“How I Created My Stage Name” – Burna Boy
Nigerian Afrobeats star, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy, has revealed the story behind the creation of his famous stage name.
The Grammy award-winning artiste spoke about it during a conversation with tennis legend Roger Federer, where he explained that the name came from his childhood interest in comic books and superheroes.
According to him, he often spent time drawing superheroes and even created his own characters.
Out of that creative process, he developed the name Burna Boy, which later became his identity in music.
He also linked his choice to his deep fascination with superheroes, saying he once imagined himself as one whose power would be connected to fire.
He said: “I used to draw superheroes when I was younger. I used to do the comic drawing of them. That’s how I got the name Burna Boy ’cause I wanted to be a character in the comic book.”
In other news, the singer shared his thoughts on how Fela Kuti’s music shaped his journey as an artiste.
Speaking during a chat with tennis legend Roger Federer, the Grammy award winner explained that he grew up listening to all of Fela’s albums, which were introduced to him by his grandfather.
