UNN Imposes 6 P.M. Curfew On Campus Events After Fatal Stabbing

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has announced new restrictions on campus social events.

The university also barred all gatherings from continuing beyond 6 p.m.

The followed the killing of a guest at a student-organized program.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Mr. Inya Egwu, who said the directive was aimed at strengthening security and preventing similar tragedies.

The move comes after the death of businessman Chiebonam Nweze, popularly known as Power-Autos, who was fatally stabbed on September 12 during a bonfire night organized by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies.

According to the university, the event, initially intended as a harmless student celebration, was infiltrated by miscreants from a nearby community who sparked violence, resulting in the deadly incident.

“In light of what happened, management has directed that all social events on campus must now take place only in the daytime, under the supervision of the University Security Unit,” the statement read.

“No event of this nature will be allowed to continue past 6:00 p.m. on any of our campuses.”

The university described the stabbing as “tragic and avoidable,” while assuring students, staff, and the public that it is committed to creating a safer environment for academic and social life.
