Davido Writes To Donald Trump Over Osun State Governorship Election

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President, Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the forthcoming Osun State governorship election amid concerns over possible violence and disruption of the electoral process.

Davido made the appeal in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, as political activities intensify ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

In the message addressed directly to President Trump, the singer said he was calling his attention to the situation in Osun State as the election approaches.

He said there were growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process.

According to him, the people of Osun State deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully and without fear.

He said, 

“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.”

The singer specifically urged President Trump and other international stakeholders to closely monitor the conduct of the election, stressing the need to protect every voter and respect every vote.”

His intervention came against the backdrop of heightened political tension ahead of the Osun governorship poll, with concerns raised in recent weeks over the possibility of violence during the election period.

Davido has been particularly vocal about developments surrounding the Osun election, which has attracted significant political attention due to the contest between the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is also his uncle, and other major contenders.

He stressed that the objective should be to ensure that Osun residents can go to the polls without intimidation and freely make their choice.

Davido’s message also urged authorities responsible for election security and administration to protect voters and ensure that the democratic process is not compromised.

The August 15 election is expected to determine who will govern Osun State for the next four years, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking another term.

The singer ended his appeal by reiterating his opposition to violence and his call for peace, transparency and a free and fair election, while directly tagging the United States President, Donald Trump in the post.
