Nigerian Wrestler, Oba Femi Beats Brock Lesnar On WrestleMania Debut
Nigerian wrestler, Isaac Odugbesan, popularly known as Oba Femi, delivered one of the most shocking moments in recent World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) history after defeating 10-time world champion Brock Lesnar in under five minutes at WrestleMania 42 on Sunday.
The high-profile clash, billed as one of the headline bouts of the night, ended dramatically as the 27-year-old overpowered the veteran in a dominant display that has since ignited widespread reactions across social media.
Lesnar, widely regarded as one of the most formidable figures in professional wrestling, left his boots and gloves in the ring after the match, a symbolic gesture traditionally interpreted as retirement in the sport.
Oba Femi, nicknamed “The Ruler,” showed little intimidation on his WrestleMania debut, matching Lesnar’s physicality from the opening bell. The contest began as a test of strength, with Lesnar briefly asserting control through a series of punishing offensive moves.
However, the Nigerian quickly turned the tide.
After absorbing sustained pressure, Oba Femi mounted a comeback, shrugging off an F5 from Lesnar before delivering a thunderous chokeslam. He sealed the victory moments later with his finishing move, the “Fall From Grace” sit-out powerbomb, pinning the veteran decisively.
The upset victory marks a defining moment in Femi’s fast-rising career, coming just three months after his transition to WWE’s main roster.
A former track and field athlete specializing in shot put, Oba Femi has enjoyed a meteoric rise since signing with WWE in 2021 through its Next In Line (NIL) programme. He went on to capture major developmental titles, including multiple NXT championships, and won both the 2023 NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament and the 2024 Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge.
Speaking during the post-show of WrestleMania, Oba Femi signalled his next ambition, sending a direct message to Roman Reigns.
While he stopped short of a formal challenge, the remark drew a loud reaction from the crowd, fueling speculation of a blockbuster title clash before the end of the year.
