Liverpool's Goalkeeper, Alisson Calf Injury Could Keep Him Out For A Month

It was a truly successful start to the Premier League season for Liverpool, as they thrashed the newly-promoted Norwich City 4-1 at Anfield to kick off the new season in the right way.

While the scoreline was heading towards something even uglier, once the Reds were up 4-0 at half-time, Norwich did well to show us what they’re capable of, and even score a goal in the 2nd half through Teemu Pukki, who was so crucial in their promotion campaign last season. Despite the joyous result for Liverpool, they lost goalkeeper Alisson Becker to a calf injury, which boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed would keep him out of the UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea, which is coming up quite soon.
“We have to see how serious it is and deal with it…It’s a calf injury. He couldn’t carry on, which is never a good sign… he will not play [in Wednesday’s Super Cup].” – Jurgen Klopp
This injury is a huge blow to Liverpool, as Alisson started all 38 Premier League games last season and often gave them huge results single-handedly. His ability on the ball is extremely important to the way Klopp’s side builds out from the back too, and they will miss that dearly in the coming weeks.
While the Reds shipped out long-time servant Simon Mignolet to Club Brugge last week, they brough in Adrian from West Ham on the last stroke of the transfer window, and the club will be relying upon him for the foreseeable future, as they look to have a strong start in the Premier League. The Spaniard came on in relief of Alisson against Norwich, and perhaps could have done better on Pukki’s goal. Youngster Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to back up Adrian.
