Two Dead, Several Injured In Orlu Market Explosion

Tragedy struck on Tuesday at the International Market in Orlu, Imo State, when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated, resulting in two fatalities.

The incident, confirmed by the Police Command in Imo, left several others injured as they fled for safety.

According to a statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Henry Okoye, the explosion occurred while the two deceased individuals, identified as hoodlums, were attempting to set up the explosive device.

The explosion instantly killed them, while nearby individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries during the ensuing chaos.

In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has directed Anti-Bomb operatives to secure and investigate the scene.

“The Imo Police Command has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident,” Okoye stated.

The PPRO reassured the public, urging residents and traders not to panic and to resume their activities with caution.

Okoye also appealed to community members to assist law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activity that could prevent similar incidents in the future.

  The  Magistrates' Court in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, denied bail to prominent broadcast journalist Chinonso Uba, popularly known as Nonso Nkwa, and ordered him to be remanded at the Owerri Correctional Centre on Wednesday. Uba was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate, His Worship Adikaibe, on five counts preferred against him by N.S. Onwochie, Legal Prosecution Officer, Owerri, Imo State on behalf of the state police commissioner. The five counts include conspiracy, treason and arson.   A  shooting spree in Awka, Anambra State capital on Thursday morning, has claimed several lives. One of the sources, a student, said the shooting happened in Ifite Awka, at approximately 9:15 a.m., leaving several people dead. Ifite Awka is dominated mostly by students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The source said the shooting may not be unconnected to cultism. Last Sunday, no fewer than 12 people were gunned down in a cult-related shooting in Nibo, a town close to Awka.   A  serious gun battle broke out between soldiers and unidentified gunmen in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, reportedly resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries.   Tragedy  unfolded in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Sunday, as a violent attack by masked gunmen resulted in multiple fatalities during the Onwa Asaa festival, a traditional community celebration. The  Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reacted to the viral video of its officials involved in an argument with a woman at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport. In the trending video, the unidentified lady accused the airport staff of demanding N5000 to clear her bags at the airport. The woman could be heard shouting that she was a passenger and wondered why the officials were demanding N5000 from her to clear her bags.
