2 Kidnapped Female FUTO Students Released After Deadly Campus Attack That Killed Polaris Bank Manager

The two female students who were kidnapped from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), have been safely released.
 
The students were taken on Sunday, September 6, 2026, during a violent attack on campus that led to the death of a Polaris bank manager, Mr. Ossy, who was shot after trying to resist his attackers while dropping off his children.

The university spokesperson, Orakwe Ezugwu, confirmed their release on Friday, September 11, 2026, noting that both students are receiving medical attention and counseling at the school’s medical centre.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu Dozie, has also visited the students to check on their well-being.

The school management thanked the police and other security agencies for their quick action.
 
They assured parents, students, and staff that extra security measures have been put in place to keep the campus safe, while urging everyone to stay calm and report any suspicious activity.

  The Uni ted States House of Representatives has approved an amendment seeking to withhold 100 per cent of the U.S. assistance to Nigeria until the country takes stronger measures to address violence and alleged persecution of Christians. The amendment, sponsored by the U.S. Congressman Gregory Steube, was adopted through a voice vote on Wednesday and attached to the fiscal year 2027 State Department spending bill, which was later passed by the House by 217-209 votes, largely along party lines.
