Gunmen Rob, Kill Major Distributor Of MTN Recharge Cards In Bayelsa State



businessman identified as Mr. Cletus Alake, was on Monday morning found brutally killed, by some unidentified armed men at his shop opposite the popular Ekeki Park, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

It was gathered from other traders in the neighbourhood that the deceased was said to have been monitored and trailed to his office where the assailant cornered him and stabbed him in multiple places till he died.

It was also learnt that the assailant was said to have left with an undisclosed amount of money, his mobile phone and a vehicle packed opposite the shop.

It was also gathered that some residents of the area and other shop owners were seen mourning the brutal killing of the man popularly referred to as Mr MTN, because he was the major distributor of MTN recharge cards in town.

Many of his co-traders who besieged the scene said his remains were discovered by some of his workers who came to resume work in the morning.

He was found in a pool of his blood and his head which had multiple stab wounds had blood still gushing out from some of the wounds.

Some of the onlookers who watched as his body was evacuated said there used to be police vans stationed opposite the crime scene.

They asked, ”where were they when the crime was committed and how did the criminals escape without being apprehended?

Although it was also learnt that the real reason for the attack was to rob the businessman who is said to always come to the shop on Sundays to print retail recharge cards for MTN, there are indications that he was a target of assassins, going by the way he was brutally killed.

Confirming the incident, Bayelsa State Police Command spokesman, Musa Mohammed an ASP, said the Command has launched a thorough investigation into the incident.
