Sadio Mane received France Football’s first ever Socrates Award, in recognition of his charity work in his native Senegal.

Mane, 30, is renowned for making headlines on the pitch, but his continued efforts off the field have continued to make a huge difference everywhere.

Nigeria’s first and only representative, Asisat Oshoala finished 16th in the women’s Ballon d’Or best player list.

Real Madrid and French striker, Karim Benzema won the 2021 Ballon d’Or at the event held in Paris, France on Monday.

France striker Karim Benzema scored 44 goals in 46 games for his club Real Madrid last term with 15 coming in the Champions League.

Robert Lewandowski received the award for last season’s top goalscorer, renamed the Gerd Mueller Trophy, for the second straight year.

The 34-year-old, who joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in the close season, scored 57 goals in 56 matches for club and country last term.

Spain’s Alexia Putellas won the women’s Ballon d’Or for the second year running on Monday, the reward coming after a season in which she was the top scorer as her club Barcelona reached the Champions League final.

Arsenal striker Beth Mead was second, with Chelsea forward Sam Kerr in third.

Barcelona defender Bronze finished in 10th place and Chelsea center-back Bright came 15th.

  There are more burdens on Nigerians as Moniepoint, Opay and other Fintech banks and financial services have imposed fresh N50 charges known as Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL), on customers. It was gathered that the customers of Moniepoint and Opay will start paying the charges from September 9, 2024, according to a recent notice by the banks. The new levy is in addition to the recent Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) pump price hike to N855 and N897 by Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited retail outlets. The  development means Nigerians using Opay and Moniepoint will have to pay N50 charges for any electronic transactions of N10,000 and above. The Fintech companies blamed the charges on a directive from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). In a terse notification to its customers on Saturday, Moniepoint wrote: “A  N50 fee would be charged on inflows you receive of N10,000 and above from Monday, September 9, 2024. IPOB Commends Ebuka Obi, Advise Igbos To Bring Back Investments Home

  The  Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has assured investors of the safety of Alaigbo, noting that South-east region is big and safe to accommodate their investments. Disclosing  this in a statement on Tuesday, Emma Powerful, the groups spokesman, advised Igbo businessmen and women to bring back their investments before they regret it. Of  recent, Igbos in Lagos and other states complain of governments policies and host communities’ attitudes that affect their respective businesses. These Igbos have been assured by the various governments of the safety of their businesses in their states.   The  Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced one Courage Ikpaka to two years imprisonment for duping a United States citizen, Mrs Yvelte M. Thompson of $53,000 by impersonating Nigerian musician, Chinedu Okoli popularly known as Flavour N’abania. Justice   Dehinde Dipeolu convicted Ikpaka on Tuesday following his guilty plea to a two-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Prosecution counsel, Suleiman Suleiman, led EFCC investigator Azibagiri Dan Ekpar in evidence against the defendant. The witness told the court that Ikpaka impersonated Flavour by pledging to organise shows in the United States of America and receiving payment through his Bitcoin wallets. Award-winning cinematographer and music producer, ThankGod Omori popularly known as TG Omori, has revealed that he had a failed kidney transplant after his brother donated to him to improve his kidney-related ailment. Omori revealed this on Wednesday, shortly after disclosing that he was going through hell and that Nigerians should pray for him.
