Russian chess official, Sergei Indeikin, has died at the age of 36 after reportedly developing a severe form of malaria following a work trip to Nigeria. Indeikin,  who served as an operational manager and delegate of the  International Chess Federation (FIDE), travelled to Abuja earlier in August for the FIDE World Amateur Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships. FIDE’s coverage of the competition confirmed his presence in Abuja, where he was listed among the officials involved in the tournament. The championship was held from August 1 to 8, 2026. FIDE  announced Indeikin’s death on August 23, describing it as the result of a “sudden illness” without publicly identifying the specific medical condition. Poco Lee is expected to appear before the Snaresbrook Crown Court in London for a plea hearing. The development was confirmed by Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of the community of Nigerians in the United Kingdom. “I can confirm that the reports are true.   A 23-year-old man from Omaha, Nebraska, who used ChatGPT to plan a bank robbery has been sentenced to 121 months (10 years) in federal prison for robbing a bank and brandishing a firearm during the crime. Deron Lewis-Payne was sentenced on August 13, 2026, in federal court in Omaha after pleading guilty to bank robbery and brandishing a Llama Mini-Max .45 handgun during a crime of violence. The United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods announced the sentence, saying District Court Judge Robert F. Rossiter Jr. sentenced Lewis-Payne to 37 months for the robbery and an additional 84 months for brandishing the firearm. The sentences will run consecutively. There is no parole in the federal prison system. Upon his release, Lewis-Payne will serve five years of supervised release. Veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be buried on Monday, August 24, 2026, in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State. Hassan died at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at the age of 66, according to a burial announcement by veteran Nollywood actor, Jide Kosoko.
