“Murder Video Of Oyo Teacher, Michael Oyedokun Is Traumatizing” – Family

The family of Michael Oyedokun, the schoolteacher beheaded by bandits in captivity on Sunday, has appealed to the public to stop sharing graphic videos of his murder.

A video reportedly released by the kidnappers, which circulated on Monday, showed Oyedokun tied up and forced to speak before he was killed. The footage sparked outrage on social media and reignited fears over the safety of the remaining victims.

Oyedokun was one of the teachers abducted by bandits from Community High School, Ahoro‑Esinele, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday. Other schools attacked in the same cycle include Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso, all in Oriire Local Government. The attack also left an assistant headmaster, Joel Adesiyan, and a commercial motorcyclist dead, prompting the Oyo State Government to shut schools in four local government areas as security agencies stepped up rescue operations.

In a statement shared on the Instagram page of social media influencer Temilola Sobola, the slain teacher’s family begged the public to “reduce or stop sharing the graphic videos and pictures of our beloved uncle.” They said the constant circulation of the content was deeply traumatizing for the family, especially his children, who are currently writing their exams, as well as elderly relatives and extended kin.

“We truly appreciate the love, concern, and sympathy shown towards our family during this painful time. However, the continuous circulation of those videos and images is deeply traumatizing for us,” the statement read.

The family urged anyone posting about the incident to blur the videos and images or use only pictures officially released by the family, adding that the request was made to protect the mental and emotional wellbeing of all relatives. They thanked the public for prayers, support, and understanding during the ordeal.
