Court Grants Justice Crack ₦5 Million Bail
The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to detained blogger, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack.
The Federal Government had on Monday opened its case against Justice Crack before the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of Federal High Court granted bail in the sum of ₦5 million and one surety in like sum to Justice Crack.
He is being prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS), over alleged cybercrime offences linked to a viral video concerning the Nigerian Army.
Hearing of the bail application was stalled last Thursday as a result of disputes between two lawyers who claimed they have been contracted to represent Justice Crack.
However, on Monday, May 18, 2026, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted bail to Justice Crack after the Federal Government opened its case against the blogger by calling its first witness, Uruntu Douglas, an operative of the DSS.
Ruling on the bail application, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik held that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court at a fixed address for at least four years and must deposit proof of residence, either through a tenancy agreement or certificate of occupancy, at the court registry.
The surety is also required to be a federal civil servant not below grade level fifteen, with evidence of at least three months’ salary, a letter of authentication from the immediate head of department, as well as proof of pensionable employment.
The court further directed that the surety must depose to an affidavit of means, submit a recent passport photograph, while the defendant is to deposit his international passport with the court.
