“Why I Celebrate When People Get Divorced” – Nigerian Comedian, Bovi

Nigerian stand-up comedian and actor, Bovi Ugboma has said he supports divorce and even celebrates it when couples go their separate ways, arguing that it often brings relief to partners trapped in unhappy marriages.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Morayo Show, Bovi said divorce is preferable to staying in a toxic relationship where one or both partners feel emotionally suffocated.

He said, “I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or both people were not breathing well in the marriage. I will not suffer anybody, nor will I want anybody to suffer me.”

The comedian, however, noted that his stance on divorce does not mean marriage is easy, revealing that he has faced challenges throughout his 17-year marriage.

“That is not to say my marriage has been easy for 17 years. It has not. I got married at 29. I have been providing for 17 years nonstop.”

Bovi also spoke about the traditional expectation that men should provide for their families while emphasizing the need for women to pursue their ambitions and attain financial independence.

“If a woman’s passion drives her to provide, her contributions should be recognized and respected.
