Missing Nigerian Doctor Found Dead In The U.S. On Christmas Day

The body of Dr. Cletus Iwuagwu, a missing Nigerian doctor has been discovered in a lake in the United States.

Dr. Iwuagwu, 71, was last seen on November 24, 2025 in Holland, Ohio. 

According to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office, the sheriff’s office found the body of Dr. Iwuagwu in Orchard Lake near Stone Oak Country Club on Thursday, December 25, 2025.

The coroner’s office said the Springfield Fire Department retrieved the body from the water.

Family members reported Dr. Iwuagwu missing on November 25.

Family last saw him around 8 p.m. in his office on November 24. 

The man’s daughter was receiving updates on her phone about her father’s locations, but authorities didn’t find him at any of the places they checked. 

The report said he was last seen wearing a white shirt and a blue shirt, according to information provided by his family.

The cause and manner of death are still under investigation, but at this time, the coroner’s office does not suspect foul play.

The coroner’s office said an autopsy will be performed Friday, December 26, 2025.

A statement from the University of Toledo Medical Center said he is a professor in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences Department of Medicine and a UToledo Health geriatric medicine physician.

“He is a well-respected physician, and we share the community’s hope for his safe return as law enforcement continues to investigate his missing-person case,” a UToledo spokesperson had said after the missing report.
