Police Arrest Six Officers For Extortion, Unauthorized Searching And Seizing Of Phones In Imo State

The Imo State Police Command has arrested and paraded six suspected security officers over alleged use of Point of Sale (POS), to extort members of the public and seize phones, especially from young people in the state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Henry Okoye, on Tuesday disclosed this to newsmen while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Owerri.

According to the Police, the suspect’s activities were bringing untold hardship on the members of the public and causing them pain.


The Police briefly said: “These are the security operatives hiding under the umbrella of Operation Search Flush in Imo harassing and extorting unsuspecting members of the public via POS to the tune of thousands of Naira, in particular the youths, seizing and checking their phones and thereby bringing untold hardship to them.”


They include: “NA Kelechi Chijoke, ‘m’ 30yrs a National Drug Law Enforcement Agent (NDLEA) operative, NA David Nwaji ‘m’ NDLEA, CA III Nwaka Ikechukwu NDLEA, DSC Obijiaku Israel ‘’ 28yrs Civil Defence, ASC II Omodi Timothy ‘m’ 33yrs Civil Defense and
Inspector Odidika Augustine ‘m’ 37 yrs an Inspector of Police.” Police said.

A  federal lawmaker representing the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie has reportedly escaped an assassination attempt. Okojie, the husband of the Nollywood movie Star, Mercy Johnson, was reportedly attacked by armed men suspected to be political thugs at his residence in Uromi on Friday morning.   The  Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced one Courage Ikpaka to two years imprisonment for duping a United States citizen, Mrs Yvelte M. Thompson of $53,000 by impersonating Nigerian musician, Chinedu Okoli popularly known as Flavour N’abania. Justice   Dehinde Dipeolu convicted Ikpaka on Tuesday following his guilty plea to a two-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Nigerian Nurse Who Left Her Infant To Die While On Duty Caught At Airport Trying To Flee UK, Jailed For Three Years

  A Nigerian nurse, identified as Ruth Auta has been sentenced to three years in jail for causing the death of her ten-week-old baby. The nurse was sentenced by Bolton Crown Court in the UK. It was gathered that the Nigerian woman left the deceased baby Joshua Akerele in her nurse's accommodation for eight hours so she could work her shift on December 20, 2022. The nurse was said to be a single mother, aged 28. When she returned to her room, she found Joshua lifeless in his cot and dialled 999, telling operators her son was not breathing. Akerele was later confirmed dead an hour later with tests showing he may have 'overheated' due to the layers of clothing and bedding he was wrapped in.
