  A  man accused of trying to open fire on a media gala attended by Donald Trump in Washington this weekend was charged in court Monday with trying to assassinate the Republican president. Cole Allen, 31, faces a sentence of up to life in prison if convicted of attempting to kill Trump during the White House Correspondents Association dinner at a hotel in the capital. Allen, who wore a blue jumpsuit, was also charged with two firearms crimes. He did not enter a plea at the hearing in a federal court and was detained, pending his next court appearance. Prosecutors told the Washington court that Allen was carrying a pump-action shotgun, a semi-automatic pistol and three knives when he tried to break through security at the Hilton, where the annual WHCA dinner has taken place for decades.   A  technician has died following a structural accident during the construction of the stage for Shakira’s upcoming concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The incident occurred on Monday, while crews were preparing for the massive free concert scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026. Emergency services were called to the scene after the worker sustained severe injuries caused by a failure in a lifting system. “Unfortunately, the technician passed away in hospital,” concert organiser, Bonus Track, confirmed in an official statement. Witnesses at the site described a scene of confusion as the structure collapsed.   Veteran Nollywood actor and producer, Solomon Akiyesi, has died. He was reported to have died in his sleep on Sunday, April 26, 2026. The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abubakar Yakubu, confirmed the incident on Monday. He stated that the actor died in Abuja and his remains have been deposited at a mortuary while the guild awaits further details from the family. “Yes, it is true. He died yesterday. He slept and did not wake up. His body is in the morgue in Abuja, where the sad incident happened,” Yakubu said. Akiyesi, a native of Akoko-Edo in Edo State, was a seasoned performer who joined the Nigerian film industry in the late 1990s. With a career spanning over two decades, he featured in more than 100 productions, earning a reputation as a versatile character actor. The  new Michael biopic has delivered a massive debut at the global box office, raking in $217 million (£160m) in its opening weekend, the biggest ever for a biographical film.   Social media activist and influencer,  Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), on Monday, April 27, 2026, appeared to have reconciled with the cryptocurrency enterpreneur, Linus Williams Ifejirika, popularly known as Blord, when both of them appeared for court proceedings, even as he took a swipe at Human Rights activist and two-time presidential candidate under African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore.
