“Runs Girls, Influencers To Pay Tax” – Federal Government

  The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele has revealed that runs girls will pay tax in the new tax reform laws.   According to him, this is because the new tax reform laws make no distinction between legitimate and illegitimate sources of income.   The reforms, signed into law in June, consolidate four major legislations: the Nigerian Tax Act (NTA), the Nigerian Tax Administration Act (NTAA), the Nigerian Revenue Service (Establishment) Act (NRSEA), and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act (JRBEA)   The NRSEA and JRBEA will take effect on 26 June, 2025 while the NTA and NTAA will commence on 1 January, 2026.   Speaking during a  “Tax Compliance and Planning”  session hosted by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and streamed live on YouTube on 26 September, Oyedele stressed that anyone earning income from providing services would be required to pay tax. “If someone is rendering a service...

DSS Set To Arraign Omoyele Sowore On Cybercrime Charges Over Anti-Tinubu Post

  Nigerian  activist, Omoyele Sowore is set to be arraigned alongside two others by the Department of State Services (DSS) today. He is to be arraigned on alleged cybercrime charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja.    Sowore and the two accused persons are to be docked for allegedly making false posts against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, allegedly to cause a breakdown of law and order in the country.   At the time of this report, Sowore, a former presidential candidate in 2019 under the party of African Action Congress (AAC), has arrived at the courtroom with a retinue of his followers to take his plea of guilty or not guilty.   The criminal charges, filed on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, list X Incorporation and Meta (Facebook) as two other defendants.   Sowore and the two other defendants are to be docked on a 5-count charge, but only Sowore, who is the 1st defendant in the charge sheet, is in court.   In th...

Nigeria’s tax landscape is set for a historic overhaul, as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has explained that the government’s reforms exempt food, education, shared transportation, and agriculture from value-added tax. The reforms, described as the most significant fiscal transformation since independence, are designed to ease the burden on citizens and businesses, while improving government revenue collection. The Executive Chairman of FIRS, Zacch Adedeji, revealed the changes in an interview marking his two years in office. Federal Government Cancels 65th Independence Day Parade

  The  Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade that had been scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. The decision was contained in a press release signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director, Information & Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, on Monday. Imohiosen did not give a reason for the decision to cancel the parade but said it will not diminish the significance of the anniversary. The statement read, “The Federal Government wishes to announce the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade, previously scheduled to mark the 65th Independence on Wednesday, 1st October. Arise News Anchor Tragically Killed During Robbery Incident At Her Home In Abuja

Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a 29-year-old Arise News anchor has died following a robbery incident at her home.  Somtochukwu passed away yesterday morning, September 29, after robbers invaded her home in Katampe, Abuja.    The sad news was disclosed in a statement released by the management of Arise News and signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi.    The statement reads in full:  "TRAGIC DEATH : SOMTOCHUKWU CHRISTELLE MADUAGWU  "December 26, 1995 - September 29, 2025  "It is with heavy hearts that the management and staff of the ARISE News Channel announce the passing of our beloved colleague, News Anchor, Reporter and Producer, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu. Niger, Mali And Burkina Faso Set To Expose Nigerian Politicians Aiding Bandits

  African countries of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso are set to reveal the names of senior Nigerian politicians alleged to be supporting bandit groups operating in Nigeria’s North-West.    This is according to Intelligence agencies from the countries.   According to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, officials of the security agencies disclosed that they are already in possession of the names of some politicians suspected of providing assistance to the criminal gangs.    They added that some individuals involved in supplying arms to the bandits had been arrested and investigations were underway.   According to the agencies, the move forms part of ongoing regional efforts to dismantle cross-border criminal networks that fuel insecurity in West Africa.    The development comes against the backdrop of growing collaboration between Sahelian states on security, especially in tackling armed groups and illicit arms trafficking across borders.

“I Never Imagined Remaining Single In My 40s” – Don Jazzy

  Mavin Records founder, Michael Collins Ajereh popularly Don Jazzy, has reflected on being single at 42.   The veteran producer and singer stated that he never imagined being single at that age.   Speaking on the Echo Podcast, the 42-year-old shared that he did not imagine he would reach his forties unmarried.   He said that while he is open to the idea, he is also content with his life as it is.   He explained that if marriage comes his way, he will accept it, but if not, he has no regrets.   “I never thought I would be 40-something and not be married. Maybe that’s the one I lost. If it comes, it comes. If it doesn’t, I’m totally fine,”  he admitted   Reflecting on alternative paths, Don Jazzy revealed that even if he had not become a music executive, he would most likely still have pursued a career in music or excelled as an influencer.   The music executive was once married in his early twenties before fame.

TUC To Join PENGASSAN In Nationwide Strike Against Dangote Refinery

  The  Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has announced it will join the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) in a nationwide strike. According to TUC, it is going on strike against Dangote Refinery over the company's alleged anti-labour activities.  TUC Secretary General Nuhu Toro disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, September 28.    The union demanded a public apology from Dangote Refinery for sacking over 800 workers for voluntarily becoming members of PENGASSAN.    TUC notified all affiliates to be on standby for a national industrial action if Dangote management fails to comply, reverse the sacking and issue a public apology.    The union said in a statement: “The Congress hereby places all affiliates on standby for a national industrial action if Dangote management fails to comply with these demands within a reasonable time.  “We stand in full solidarity with the affected workers and with...

PENGASSAN Strike Shuts Down NNPCL, NUPRC And NMDPRA

  The  Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has commenced a nationwide strike on Monday. The strike action has crippled activities at Nigeria’s major oil and gas institutions, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).   The action, which stemmed from a weekend directive by the union’s National Executive Council, led to a complete withdrawal of services by members across the country, forcing critical regulatory agencies to shut their doors.   At the NUPRC headquarters in Abuja, our reporter observed that the main gate was locked, with staff unable to gain entry. PENGASSAN Declares Nationwide Strike

  The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), has declared a nationwide strike. It  directed all its members in various offices, companies, institutions, and agencies to cease all services starting at 12:01 AM on Monday, September 29, 2025. This resolution was contained in a statement following the Association’s National Executive Council (NEC), meeting on Saturday. The Association urged all its members stationed in various field locations including all control room operations, panel operations, and outfield personnel to withdraw their services beginning at 6:00 AM on Sunday, September 28, 2025, and start a round-the-clock prayer vigil. It said that the prayer is a call to God to make those in authority to rein in Dangote and his co-travelers on the need to obey Nigeria’s law.   Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed the sales of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol in Naira following the intervention of the Chairman of the Naira-for-Crude Transaction Committee, Dr. Zacch Adedeji. In a  statement, the refinery stated:  “Following the intervention of the Naira-for-Crude Transaction Committee Chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS Sales in Naira commencing Immediately. “You may kindly proceed to place your orders in Naira for both self-collection and free delivery of PMS to the earlier advised locations across the country,” it said. The company explained that the temporary suspension of Naira-denominated petrol sales, announced on Friday and initially scheduled to take effect from Sunday 28 September, has been lifted. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has declared that its members will implement a nationwide petrol price increase following Dangote Refinery’s suspension of petrol sales in Naira. The National President of IPMAN, Abubakar Maigandi, disclosed this to the newsmen in an interview on Saturday, 27th of September, 2025. He confirmed that the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery, on Friday, sent an email to its customers, including marketers, informing them of the suspension of petrol sales in Naira with effect from Sunday, 28th of September, 2025. According to him, the implication is that fuel pump prices would go up from their current ₦865 and ₦910 per litre in Lagos and Abuja. The development was communicated to customers in a notice made available to journalists on Saturday. According to the notice signed by the Group Commercial Operations of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals, the decision would take effect from Sunday, September 28, 2025, citing the exhaustion of its crude-for-naira allocation as the reason. Fresh tension is unfolding in Nigeria’s oil sector as the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has threatened to shut down the Dangote Refinery following the mass dismissal of workers. The crisis may lead to a hike in the price of petrol if not addressed. This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by the General Secretary of PENGASSAN, Lumumba Okugbawa after the Dangote Refinery sacked over 800 Nigerians hours after they joined the union. The union threatened to explore all options if the management of the 650,000 barrel-per-day refinery fails to recall the sacked workers. Dangote Group in a statement on Friday confirmed the sack, noting that the action became necessary to safeguard the refinery from ‘repeated acts of sabotage’. Nnamdi  Kanu’s legal team has revealed that a private hospital in Abuja has agreed to admit and provide medical treatment for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader.
