Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno Appoints Daughter As First Lady After His Wife’s Death

Following the death of his wife, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has named his daughter, Helen Eno-Obareki, as the Acting First Lady of the state.

Eno disclosed this when Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, paid him a condolence visit in Uyo.

The governor said his daughter would work closely with the state’s deputy governor to ensure the Office of the First Lady continues its duties.

“To maintain the Office of the First Lady and carry forward my late wife’s work, I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office.

“She will work closely with the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare,” the governor said.

Eno expressed his confidence in his daughter’s ability to deliver in the new assignment and sustain her mother’s legacies.

A  federal lawmaker representing the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie has reportedly escaped an assassination attempt. Okojie, the husband of the Nollywood movie Star, Mercy Johnson, was reportedly attacked by armed men suspected to be political thugs at his residence in Uromi on Friday morning. Okojie’s media aide, Michael Ihaza, confirmed the development in a statement. According to the statement, the attackers invaded the lawmaker’s residence with a Lexus GX 470 carrying a Rivers State vehicle registration number – PHC 253 FF. Many Feared Dead As Nigerian Soldiers And Gunmen Engage In Gun Battle In Imo State

  A  serious gun battle broke out between soldiers and unidentified gunmen in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, reportedly resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries. According to reports, the attack occurred at the Aba branch in Ehime Mbano last night. “Some non-state actors attacked and killed some soldiers in the area yesterday,”  a source claimed. “The whole place is on fire, and troops have taken over nearby communities,”  the source added. Following the incident, residents fled in panic amid constant shootings that filled the air, creating a climate of fear and uncertainty. “We are terrified,”  said a resident who wished to remain anonymous. “The sound of gunfire is still echoing in our ears.   Just few hours to the Imo State Local Government elections, the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has called on members of the public to display civility by shunning acts capable of disrupting the electoral process during and after the exercise. The Police also announced that restriction on vehicular movement would be enforced from 12 midnight to 6pm on election day, allowing only essential services, such as medical practitioners, fire service, authorised media and accredited electoral observers to operate to facilitate a smooth voting process. Woman Sentenced To 10 Years Imprisonment For Stabbing Husband's Side Chick

  A  court has sentenced a Zimbabwean woman, Stacey Mkandla, to 10 years imprisonment after she was found guilty of stabbing her husband’s lover. She stabbed the lady after discovering the two in a compromising position in her marital bed earlier this year. The 34-year-old was alerted by neighbors while attending an all-night church service and rushed home around 4 a.m., where she found her husband, Tafadzwa Emmanuel Munyoro, in bed with his lover, Brightness Phiri. According to Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Mkandla had left her home the previous evening to participate in a prayer session, leaving her husband alone. New Mexico City Launches Ten Commandments, Ask Residents To Help Pay Legal Fees

The city of Bloomfield, New Mexico, put up an illegal Ten Commandments monument outside of a municipal building. It was put up for religious reasons in 2011. Multiple courts ruled the monument to be unconstitutional. Despite this, city officials fought back while the ACLU told them it would be unwise to do so as the law is clear on the issue. In February 2018, they could not file any more appeals which meant they owed the ACLU $700,000. In June, a proposed budget was released taking the major payment into account.  The budget shows that the city estimates $12.5 million in revenue while the 2019 preliminary fiscal year budget called for $12.2 million in expenditures and for the payment of $233,000 towards the Ten Commandments lawsuit. The city was also given the option of whether they’d like to pay the entire amount by 2021 or make three payments.
