RAPE: Appeal Court Acquits Lagos Doctor Sentenced To Life Imprisonment [PHOTOS]

The Appeal Court, Lagos Division, on Friday nullified the conviction of Dr Olufemi Olaleye, the Medical Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, who had been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his wife’s niece. The court discharged and acquitted Olaleye after finding the judgement of the trial court to be faulty. The appellate court held that “the prosecution’s case was bereft of any credible evidence that she was a child. Credible and reasonable doubt was created in the prosecution’s case.” “It is on record that the trial court concluded on the age of the victim based on the evidence of witnesses, even though none gave evidence of experiencing PW2’s birth,” the court added. Nigerians To Pay More For Calls, Data, SMS As NCC Set Date For New Tariff For MTN, Airtel And Others

  Nigerians may pay more for data and calls as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) gets ready to unveil a new tariff plan for the telecommunications sector on December 13, 2024.    According to NCC, this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to simplify tariff plans and enhance consumer experience in the industry.   The Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Maida Wada, disclosed this during an interactive session with the media in Abuja. Represented by the Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Reuben Muoka, Dr. Wada confirmed that the new date replaces the previously announced release date of October 27, which was postponed due to incomplete stakeholder processes.  “As of December 13, 2024, a new tariff plan will be announced.   A  25-year-old Air India pilot, Srishti Tuli, has reportedly taken her own life. She hung herself with a data cable at her flat in Mumbai after which her boyfriend was arrested for alleged harassment After the incident that took place in a rented flat in Mumbai’s Marol, police arrested Srishti Tuli’s boyfriend on charges of abetment and sent him into custody. Police took Aditya Pandit (27) into custody on Tuesday after one of Tuli’s relatives accused him of harassing and abusing her and forcing her to stop eating non-vegetarian food, the official told news agency PTI citing the FIR. According to the official from Powai police station, Tuli was from Uttar Pradesh and had been living in Mumbai for work since June last year.   Separatist leader, Simon Ekpa who was arrested over alleged terrorism-related activities, in Finland, is expected to face charges in May 2025. Senior Detective Superintendent Mikko Laaksonen of Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation (FNBI) confirmed this latest development to newsmen via email on Tuesday that the district court had set May 2025 as the deadline for prosecutors to file potential charges against Ekpa. The Finnish government announced last week the arrest of Ekpa and four others on suspicion of terrorism-related offenses, including incitement to violence and financing terrorism. Witnesses said the woman was nabbed after a man in his early 30s accused her of causing the disappearance of his manhood shortly after a brief encounter.   The  Anambra State Police Command has confirmed an attack by gunmen and the abduction of three individuals at the motorcycle showroom of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing, a prominent Nigerian vehicle producer, in Nnewi, Anambra State. The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who made this known in a statement issued in Awka, the state capital, said that the incident occurred at the company’s showroom located along Owerri Road, Nnewi at 6:45 pm on Tuesday. Ikenga said that the police had launched a joint security forces offensive operation for possible rescue of the abductees and arrest of the abductors. Simon Ekpa Arrested In Finland For Allegedly Engaging In Terrorism
