Spanish FA Rescinds Vinicius’ Red Card, Bans Valencia

The red card given to Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr during the 1-0 defeat to Valentia on Sunday has been rescinded.

La Liga also slammed Valencia with a partial stadium ban following the racist abuse directed at the Real Madrid star during the game.

Vinicius was targeted with vile chants and gestures by home fans at the Mestalla and the 22-year-old attempted to draw the referee’s attention to the crowd and was later red-carded in the 97th minute of action following a heated argument with Valencia striker Hugo Duro.

The Spanish FA [RFEF] announced on Tuesday that the red card has been rescinded.

The Mestalla’s Mario Kempes Stand will also be closed for five matches. The club will also pay a fine of €45,000.

The Committee has sanctioned Valencia CF with the partial closure of the Mestalla stadium for five matches, more specifically of the south stand Mario Kempes, following the events which took place during the Primera DivisiĂłn National League Championship match between the home team and Real Madrid CF.

In addition, a financial penalty of 45,000 euros was imposed on Valencia,” the FA statement said.
