Nigerian Man Burns Newlyweds, Claims Deceased Bride Jilted Him After He Spent N150,000 On Her

A Nigerian man, Ibrahim Muhammadu has allegedly burnt newlyweds, claiming the wife jilted him before getting married to the man.

The new bride died while the groom is currently fighting for his life.

Muhammadu reportedly burnt the two-week-old couple on September 6, 2022, claiming the woman deceived him before remarrying.

It was learnt that the bride died from severe burns. The groom is currently receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

"I'm married with four children, but I fell in love with the deceased and spent about N150, 000 on her after she promised to wed me.

"After collecting my money, she eventually declined the proposal and got married to another suitor who is the victim of the tragic incident," Muhammadu said.

Apparently angered after being ditched by the deceased, Muhammadu hired one Ibrahim Savanna and agreed to pay him N5,000 to burn the couple while asleep.

After collecting the money, Savanna armed himself with a gallon of petrol and some matches, sneaked into the residence of the couple in the dead of night and perpetrated the heinous crime.

Savanna, who is now at large, was said to have locked the victims in their room, doused it with petrol, set the place on fire and took to his heels.

The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje on Monday, confirmed taking Muhammadu into custody.

Nguroje said, "The Criminal Investigation Department of the Command is investigating the matter after which the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution."
