Ebubeagu Kills 14 Youths Returning From Wedding Ceremony In Awo Omamma, Imo State
Tragedy befell on Sunday July 17, 2022 at Awo Omamma in Oru East local government area of Imo state when operatives of Imo state government owned security outfit, Ebubeagu reportedly attacked and killed 14 people said to be returning to Awo Omamma from Otulu where they attended a wedding ceremony.
Among those killed are twin brothers said to be in their twenties and had come back home for the wedding.
The victims who were all said to be riding on motorcycles while on their way back from the ceremony which turned out to be their waterloo were close to their homes at Awo Omamma by 7pm when operatives of Ebubeagu reportedly opened fire on them.
A source who does not want his name in print told some reporter that, “the victims who were merrily coming back from a traditional wedding they attended were all on motorcycles when operatives of Ebubeagu security outfit who probably thought they were members of Eastern Security Network ESN opened fire on them without ascertaining their identities. At the end of the shooting, it was speculated that 14 people were killed while others sustained various degrees of injuries.’
The president General of Otulu Town Union, Sir Nnamdi Agbor while speaking to some newsmen, confirmed that seven corpses have been seen and identified while five people are still missing and one hospitalized. He said the 5 missing people are likely to be among those killed in the massacre by Ebubeagu, but yet to be seen.
Another source who also pleaded anonymity said, ‘the operatives of Ebubeagu in their characteristic manner may have carted away the bodies of the 5 missing people for their usual practice of harvesting organs and burning them as previously speculated in different quarters”.
They wondered why Ebubeagu, a security outfit the state government claimed to have set up to protect Imo people has turned out to be their albatross.
He called on Governor Uzodinma who incidentally hails from Omuma, the headquarters of Oru East Local Government Area which is a neighbouring community to Awo Omamma to as a matter of urgency do something about the incessant killing of innocent people.
