UNILAG Student Wins Four-Inch Heel Race Contest
21-year-old Grace Utobuiro, a 200-level Actuarial Science student of University of Lagos (UNILAG) has won the third edition of the Four Inch High Heel Race Competition
Grace defeated 14 other contestants to emerge winner of the one-day 100-meter dash event held at the National Institute of Sports pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
During the heats, she enjoyed easy runs, but was however, given a strong challenge in the final by Favourite Eluwa and Zainab Ayinla, who had to settle for the second and third positions respectively.
The Four-inch race competition is a special event aimed at creating excitement and entertainment and confidence among young women in Nigeria. It is the first of its kind in Lagos, Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
Positioned to be a funtertainment (fun and entertainment) programme, young Nigerian girls between the ages of 18 and 35, took part in the competition wearing four-inch high heel stilettos shoe to compete on a 100-meter race.
The event was organised by DAK Marketing Services Limited (DMS Limited), a marketing communications firm based in Lagos, to give young women a platform to showcase their talent and also to support the dreams of young persons.
Grace won N200, 000 and gift items for her effort, while Favourite and Zainab received N150, 000 and N100, 000 respectively as well as gift items.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DMS Limited, Dede Agwu Kalu, said he was impressed with the turnout and the high level of competitiveness exhibited by the participants.
He assured of his continuous commitment to the competition and hoped to spread it to other states of the federation and other African countries, adding that the sport-tainment is about women being smart on heels when they wear them.
“It is absolutely necessary for ladies to wear high heel because it gives them a unique look and bring out the elegance in them.
“We invited the contestants and put them through some questioning and medical checks. We then trimmed down the number to 15, who participated,” he said.
