  Al Nassr on Friday gave reasons the club signed former Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo was a free agent for just over a month after his contract with Man United was terminated in November. However, according to Al Nassr, they signed Ronaldo because the Portugal captain’s signing will inspire the Saudi Arabia league and future generations of boys and girls in the country. In a statement via its official Instagram account on Friday, Al Nassr said: “This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls, to be the best version of themselves. “Welcome Cristiano to your new home Al Nassr.” Ronaldo’s deal with Al Nassr will run until 2025.

  Award winning Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Adichie, has been conferred with a chieftaincy title in Abba Anambra State. Abba is her hometown. She was on Friday honoured with the title of Odeluwa Abba. The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo and other well known dignitaries attended the ceremony.   Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has once again gotten the internet talking with his dramatic entrance to his concert in a coffin at Fela’s Shrine in Lagos. The singer, on Wednesday night, December 28th held his Portable Live in Concert at African Shrine. The highlight of the night was when the father of four arrived on stage in a coffin. In the video, Portable could be seen entering a coffin as he was being transported to the stage. This isn’t the first time Portable is making his love for coffins known. Recall that Portable had a few months ago inked his face with a coffin, stirring reactions on social media.   Two suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo boys, and two of their female colleagues have allegedly abducted another colleague over the sharing of 91% proceeds of fraud. The suspects were on Monday arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command. The Ogun State police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, identified the suspects as Mr Agbe Simeon, Miss Messiah Nicky, Mr Oladapo Dolapo and Miss Yetunde Shonola. Oyeyemi said they were arrested at Orile Imo village in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, following information received by the police at Owode Egba division. The police had learnt that one Haruna Usman, who was abducted since December 22 was being held hostage somewhere in Orile Imo. Upon the information, the DPO of Owode Egba division, CSP Popoola Olasunkanmi, had quickly mobilised his men to the area, where the four “abductors” were apprehended as two others escaped.   The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has threatened to withdraw their unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) services from banks over debt. The association said that the accumulated debt from the unstructured supplementary service data (USSD), owed to them by banks, rose to N80 billion as at November this year. The assertion was made by Gbenga Adebayo, chairman of ATCON, during a recent interview with Thisday, noting that issue had to be addressed as it could not be wished away. The debt is rising and has not been paid by the banks. As of November 2022, the accumulated debt rose to over N80 billion.   The Lagos State Police Command has forwarded its investigation report on the killing of female lawyer Mrs Omobolanle Raheem by a trigger-happy Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Drambi Vandi, to the Force Headquarters, Abuja. Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, is in the country’s southwest region. The spokesman for the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the information on Wednesday evening on his Twitter account. “The investigation report was earlier today forwarded to the Force Headquarters, Abuja for further necessary action,” he said.   A picture of the killer policeman attached to the Lagos Police Command who killed Omobolanle Raheem, a female lawyer has been released. The trigger-happy Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) killed the lawyer in the Ajah area of the state on Sunday, Christmas Day. The unnamed policeman attached to the Ajah Police Station and his team were said to have tried to stop Raheem, who was with members of her family. After the policeman shot Raheem, she was rushed to a hospital, where she was confirmed dead. Confirming the incident, Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos police command spokesperson said the suspect is an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), adding that the officer and two others had been arrested. He however failed to reveal the identity of the trigger-happy policeman. The killing of Raheem is one of the many incidents of police brutality and extrajudicial killings that have been recorded in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria time after time.   The death toll from a fuel tanker explosion in a South African city east of Johannesburg has risen to 15, the health minister said Sunday. “On Saturday, the death toll was at 10 people and now we are sitting at 15 as of this morning,” Joe Phaahla told reporters at Tambo Memorial Hospital. The tanker, transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), was caught beneath a bridge close to the hospital and houses on Saturday morning in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg. The minister said three hospital employees, two nurses and a driver, died later from severe burn injuries. Thirty-seven people were injured, including 24 patients and 13 staff members who were in the hospital’s accident and emergency unit at the time of the blast. They “sustained severe burns and have been diverted to neighbouring hospitals”, Phaahla said.   One Madam Success has reportedly lured four teenage girls said to be looking for money to return to school into prostitution. The girls (names withheld) were lured from Akwa Ibom to Agbor in Delta State after Madam Success told them she had a job in a beer parlour for them but were allegedly put in a brothel and made to sleep with at least five men a day.
