Jay-Z To Launch Roc Nation School Of Music, Sports & Entertainment In His Hometown & Offer Scholarships To Native Students

US Rapper and entrepreneur, Jay-Z, is set to launch the Roc Nation School Of Music, Sports and Entertainment as his company Roc Nation, has announced a new partnership with Long Island University  in Jay-Z's hometown, Brooklyn. 

 

The classes will begin in 2021 and students will experience hands-on learning while scholarships will be offered based on merit, Roc Nation announced.

 

The financial support, which the school has dubbed the “Hope Scholarship” will target promising high-schoolers from New York.

 

The school will be housed at the 15,000-student Long Island University in Brooklyn, and will offer undergraduate degrees in music, music technology, entrepreneurship and production, and sports management, according to The Associated Press.

“We’re excited that the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment will provide unique insight, knowledge and experiences for students and introduce the world to the next generation of unmatched talent,” said Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez.

 

The new school will be a “a true investment in our community and young people in Brooklyn, in New York City, and beyond,” she added.

 

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation entertainment company was formed in 2008 and has signed on big-name artists including Kanye West, Rihanna, J.Cole, Alicia Keys etc.

 

Roc Nation Sports, a subsidiary of Roc Nation Entertainment was opened in 2013 to represent athletes and boasts Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford among it's clientele.

  A  new experimental brain implantation device, Blindsight, designed to restore vision has been awarded the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) ‘breakthrough device’ designation. The device was created by Elon Musk’s brain chip company, Neuralink, which specialises in developing a brain-chip interface that can be implanted within the skull. Blindsight is designed to allow individuals who have lost both eyes and optic nerves to regain sight. A  federal lawmaker representing the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie has reportedly escaped an assassination attempt. Okojie, the husband of the Nollywood movie Star, Mercy Johnson, was reportedly attacked by armed men suspected to be political thugs at his residence in Uromi on Friday morning.   The  Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced one Courage Ikpaka to two years imprisonment for duping a United States citizen, Mrs Yvelte M. Thompson of $53,000 by impersonating Nigerian musician, Chinedu Okoli popularly known as Flavour N’abania. Justice   Dehinde Dipeolu convicted Ikpaka on Tuesday following his guilty plea to a two-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Prosecution counsel, Suleiman Suleiman, led EFCC investigator Azibagiri Dan Ekpar in evidence against the defendant. Nigerian Nurse Who Left Her Infant To Die While On Duty Caught At Airport Trying To Flee UK, Jailed For Three Years

  A Nigerian nurse, identified as Ruth Auta has been sentenced to three years in jail for causing the death of her ten-week-old baby. The nurse was sentenced by Bolton Crown Court in the UK. It was gathered that the Nigerian woman left the deceased baby Joshua Akerele in her nurse's accommodation for eight hours so she could work her shift on December 20, 2022. The nurse was said to be a single mother, aged 28. When she returned to her room, she found Joshua lifeless in his cot and dialled 999, telling operators her son was not breathing. Akerele was later confirmed dead an hour later with tests showing he may have 'overheated' due to the layers of clothing and bedding he was wrapped in.
