Bill Gates Buys A Hydrogen-Powered Super Yacht For $645 Million

Bill Gates the Microsoft tycoon who has been a top contender for the world’s richest person for decades, recently purchased a luxurious superyacht that will be powered entirely by liquid hydrogen, and it is believed that the billionaire spent roughly $645million on the vessel.

However, it might be a few years before the 64-year-old is able to travel on his new purchase, as it is not expected to be ready for the water until 2024. The price tag seems even more remarkable when considering that the yacht is not even built yet, it is just a design concept, which was unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show, and must have caught the eye of Mr. Gates.

The yacht is expected to be about 370ft-long and consist of five decks, which will have enough space for 14 guests, 31 crew members, a gym, yoga studio, beauty room, massage parlor and cascading pool. The gym comes complete with a large number of workout machines, as well as a yoga studio.

All of the graphics shown in this article are computer-generated images of the yacht, which were displayed by Sinot at the Monaco Yacht Show last year. The engineers behind the project say that it will operate on hydrogen, which will be pumped through a special type of fuel cell where it is then converted into electricity. Even though it is environmentally friendly, the vessel will still pack a punch, and they hope it will be able to reach up to 17 knots and travel 3,750 miles before needing to refuel, which should be enough to cross the Atlantic.

Designer Sander Sinot hopes that this design will encourage other yacht companies to build their products with environmental sustainability in mind. Although this futuristic yacht will be run on liquid hydrogen, there will also be an engine that runs on diesel as a back-up just in case, although this is mainly due to the fact that there are so few hydrogen refueling stations.

According to the US Department of Energy, there are just 34 public hydrogen fuelling stations in the United States, most of which are in the state of California. In fact, in the US, there are only 3 public hydrogen fuelling stations outside of California. In the past, Gates has been known to rent yachts for vacations, but this is the first one that he has actually purchased, or at least the first that the media has known about. Gates left his position at Microsoft in 2008 so he could focus on his efforts with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which is reported to be the largest private charity in the world. Gates has held the top spot on the list of The World’s Billionaires for 18 out of the past 23 years.
