A Swiss court handed jail sentences to four members of Britain’s richest family on Friday for exploiting Indian staff at their Geneva mansion. The Hindujas — who were not present in court — were acquitted of human trafficking, but convicted on other charges in a stunning verdict for the family whose fortune is estimated at 37 billion pounds ($47 billion). Prakash Hinduja and his wife Kamal Hinduja each got four years and six months, while their son Ajay and his wife Namrata received four-year terms, the presiding judge in Geneva ruled. The cases stem from the family’s practice of bringing servants from their native India and included accusations of confiscating their passports once they were flown to Switzerland.   The  late Nollywood actor, Amaechi Muonagor, was on Friday buried in grand style at his hometown, Ugamuma village, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The  legendary actor was buried amid tears from family members, relatives, and the Nollywood family. The actor died  on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the age of 67 years, after suffering from protracted kidney-related issues, diabetes, and stroke. Before his death, the deceased was known for his mastery of interpreting roles in movies and endeared himself to audiences with his versatility in both comical and epic movies.   Oche Thompson, a brother to former Super Eagles midfielder, Onazi Ogenyi, has been involved in a fatal car crash. This  was revealed by the former Lazio and Denizlispor player on his Instagram page on Friday. According to Onazi, his brother’s wife, Ann, died instantly after a truck driver rammed into 10 vehicles.   A Federal High Court sitting in Kano yesterday nullified the reappointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano. But Kano State government in a swift reaction hours after the ruling yesterday, insisted that Mohammad Sanusi remained the 16th emir of Kano. It also asked Ado Bayero to vacate the Gidan Nassarawa mini palace, where he had been living after his removal, for demolition. Alhaji Aminu Babba-Dan’agundi, who holds the title of Sarkin Dawaki Babba, had, through his counsel, Ibrahim Aliyu-Nasarawa, filed a motion dated May 23, in which he asked the court to restrain the Kano State government from implementing the Kano State Emirate (Repeal) Law 2024. “Amazing Human” – Wizkid Hails Don Jazzy After Labelling Him ‘Influencer’

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun popularly known as Wizkid has praised veteran producer and music executive, Don Jazzy for his “amazing” nature. The commendation follows their recent fallout on social media. It was gathered that Wizkid shaded Don Jazzy after his signee Ladipoe seemingly ridiculed him in an X post for claiming that ‘Hip hop is dead.’ After a  fan alerted Wizkid to the post, he reacted by saying, “Lol, never chatting with anyone signed to an influencer. Next.” He also retweeted two tweets suggesting that he referred to Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy as an influencer. Don Jazzy reacted by unfollowing Wizkid on Instagram. TERRORISM TRIAL: Court Orders Nigerian Government And Nnamdi Kanu, To Explore Political Solution

  The Abuja Federal High Court on Wednesday directed the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi and Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to explore political solution and reconciliation in the ongoing terrorism trial. Justice Binta Nyako gave the order while invoking the court’s power under Section 17 of the Federal High Court Act. Section 17 of the Federal High Court Act provides that, “In any proceedings in the Court, the Court may promote reconciliation among the parties thereto and encourage and facilitate the amicable settlement thereof.” Responding, the prosecutor, Ademoyega Awomolo (SAN), told the court that he has no objection to political settlement of the case. Awomolo said the court should direct Kanu’s lawyers to discuss directly with the Attorney-General. Kanu’s Lead Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, did not express objection to political settlement of the case. Nigerian Government Announces Plan To Send First Citizen To Space

  The Nigerian Government has announced that it is sending its first citizen into space. The Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Mathew Adepoju, made this known at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday. He said that the government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA), to facilitate the ambitious venture . According to him, “This collaboration, which is coming to the country, marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s 25th anniversary of Space Exploration journey and opens new opportunities for scientific research and technological advancement.” It was gathered that NASRDA has decried the lack of patronage for homegrown technology to fight maritime insecurity. The  agency said that 90 per cent of security challenges facing the maritime sector in the country can be tackled by Geo-Stationary Satellite.
