2023 AFCON: Egypt Confirms Salah’s Departure To Liverpool, Gives Condition For Return

The Egyptian Football Association has confirmed that captain of their national team, Mohamed Salah, has left the team’s camp at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah has returned to the UK and will continue his rehabilitation from a muscle injury with his club Liverpool.

However, in a statement on Sunday night, the Egyptian FA made it clear that the 31-year-old will return to Ivory Coast if they qualify for the semi-final of the tournament.

“The Egyptian FA announces that Salah will now travel to England to receive treatment with the hope that he will join the Egyptian national team if it qualifies for the semi-finals,” the statement read.

The Pharaohs play Cape Verde in their final Group B match on Monday night.

They only have two points so far, after drawing with Mozambique and Ghana.
