“Why My Father-In-Law Doesn’t Like Me” – Mohbad’s Wife

Cynthia Omowunmi Aloba, the wife of the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed the reason why Mohbad’s father doesn’t like her.

She shared her perspective during her testimony at the Candide-Johnson Court House in Ita Elewa, Ikorodu.

In her testimony before the Lagos coroner’s inquest on Tuesday, Omowunmi disclosed that Mohbad’s father, Oladimeji Aloba, believed she was responsible for causing a rift between him and Mohbad, leading to their strained relationship.

The deterioration in her relationship with her father-in-law began after the birth of her son, Liam.

She told the coroner, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, that Mohbad’s father became angry with her for Mohbad choosing not to have Liam’s naming ceremony in Ikorodu.

She narrated, “I used to have a very good relationship with my father-in-law before the birth of my son, Liam. In fact, I used to invite him to our house on many occasions.

“But because Mohbad was angry with him over some of the things he was doing and his refusal to hold our son’s naming ceremony in Ikorodu, he became angry with me, thinking I was the one behind it all.

“So he became my enemy and was not talking to me like before.”

Also, she narrated how she and Baba Mohbad used to be very close. Mohbad’s father had prayed for her to conceive Liam. She explained that their closeness was to such an extent that Mohbad’s father even brought his girlfriend to their rented apartment in Lekki. She never raised any objections because, in her view, it was his son’s house. The girlfriend in question differed from the stepmother at their family home, so Mohbad’s house served as their meeting point.

The problems started when she gave birth to Liam. According to Wunmi, the cause of their strained relationship was Liam’s placenta. She and Mohbad refused to hand over Liam’s placenta to Daddy Mohbad, leading to a series of arguments. Wunmi clarified that it was initially Mohbad’s decision not to hand over the placenta to his father, and she, as his wife, merely supported that decision.

Wunmi also addressed the allegations made by Baba Mohbad, claiming to have seen a blood-soaked bucket in Mohbad’s room. She refuted these claims, stating that it was all untrue. Mohbad’s brother, who lived with them, could testify that the “blood” was from a minor cut, and what was soaked up was water.

Wunmi expressed her frustration with people defaming her on social media for things she did not do. She also mentioned that Mohbad’s Canada visa was approved just a day before he died. Due to the threats she faced, she had to leave her husband’s house after his death. The next coroner inquest hearing has been rescheduled to November 15th, 2023.
