Lawyers In Mgbidi, Oguta, Omumma Shut Down Courts Over Killing Of Colleague

  Today , courts in Mgbidi, Oguta and Omumma areas of Imo State, shut down operations following the killing of a popular lawyer in the State, Chinedu Nwowu. It was gathered that the lawyer was said to have been double crossed and shot dead on Wednesday evening in Mgbidi, his hometown, by yet to be identified gunmen. A source said some gun-bearing men forcefully blocked the victim while driving and shot him dead. The development had caused panic in the state as no reason had been disclosed for his killing. Following the tragic development, the Orlu Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, where the deceased belonged to, had announced that no court session would go on in Mgbidi, Oguta and Omumma axis of the state following the tragedic incident. The branch announced an emergency meeting of the members following the killing of the lawyer. Friends And Colleagues Mourn As Gunmen Kill Lawyer In Imo State

Chinedu Nwowu, an Imo State-based lawyer, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Mgbidi, the Oru West Local Government Area of the state. Nwowu was driving along the Mgbidi highway around 7pm on Wednesday, January 22, when his vehicle was intercepted by the gunmen. One source said,  “We just saw a car overtake the man’s car dangerously, and right before our eyes, the boys carrying guns jumped out and stopped the man’s car. “The gunmen dragged him out of the car and shot him many times. Then they entered their car and drove off. We were lying on the floor for fear of our lives and watching helplessly. “The incident did not last up to five minutes to enable people to rally help from the security operatives.” The source further revealed,  “People later came out and rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.” The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, confirmed on Thursday, January 23, and assured that the perpetrators will be caught. ...

The United States immigration authorities have been given the authority to arrest individuals at schools, churches, and hospitals following the Trump administration's reversal of policies that previously deemed these locations off-limits for enforcement. The policy change ends more than a decade of restrictions that protected these “sensitive areas.” The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection, announced the change in a statement, emphasizing the importance of eliminating spaces where individuals could evade arrest. “Criminals will no longer be able to hide in America’s schools and churches to avoid arrest. “The Trump Administration will not tie the hands of our brave law enforcement, and instead trusts them to use common sense,”  the statement said, as reported by the newsmen on Tuesday. “You’ll Go Back To Detention If You Misbehave Again” – Burna Boy Threatens Speed Darlington

Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy has threatened rapper, Speed Darlington following his recent release from police detention.   Recall that Akpi regained his freedom yesterday after two months in custody.   Darlington was arrested and detained by the police for accusing Burna Boy of having an immoral relationship with embattled American rapper and music executive Sean Combs popularly known as Diddy.   Reacting to his release, Burna Boy threatened to send Akpi back to detention if he misbehave again.   He warned that this time around there would be no mercy.   “If you like misbehave again, you’ll go back to where you come from! And this time around, there will be no mercy! #Don’tMessWithODG,” he wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday night.  

EFCC Officer Wanted For Absconding With $30,000 In Kaduna

  Polycarp, an official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been declared wanted.   He was declared wanted for absconding with $30,000 and other valuables in Kaduna.   The officer, stationed at the Commission’s Kaduna zonal office, was tasked with managing exhibits in the zone.   While the EFCC is yet to disclose specific details surrounding the crime, it has been reported that some of the valuables include, gold bars, valued at over N1 billion, $180,000, and £140,000.   Polycarp allegedly disappeared after being unable to explain the whereabouts of the $30,000.   This is coming shortly after the agency detained 10 officers in Lagos for failing to account for missing operational items.

President Trump Signs Executive Order To End Birthright Citizenship

  The  47th President of the United States of America, Donald Trump on Monday, January 20, signed an executive order vowing to end birthright citizenship in the U.S., despite a broad legal consensus that the Constitution guarantees American citizenship to everyone born on U.S. soil. Trump’s order directs federal agencies to refuse to recognize U.S. citizenship for children born in the U.S. to mothers who are in the country illegally or there legally on visas, if the father is not a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. The order would deny U.S. citizenship, including passports, to those children born in the U.S. starting 30 days from now, if at least one parent isn’t an American citizen or green card holder. The Supreme Court ruled more than a century ago that children born in the U.S. to foreign parents are U.S. citizens under the 14th Amendment.
