  The vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Datti Baba-Ahmed has urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to hold the swearing-in of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, on May 29. Tinubu, the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared the winner of the presidential election on March 1 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). But Baba-Ahmed, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, argued that the APC failed to meet the requirements of Section 134 (2)(a) and (b) of the Nigerian constitution for election into the office of the President. Addressing Buhari and the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, Baba-Ahmed said: “Mr President, do not hold that inauguration. CJN, Your Lordship, do not partake in unconstitutionality. “ You cannot swear [in] people who haven’t met the constitutional requirements; you can’t do that. “ If you do it, you have done something unlawful, something unconstitutional.”...

  The family of an ex-permanent secretary in Ogun State, Adefemi Egbeoluwa, and his wife, Oluwafunmilayo, have been grieving after their lifeless bodies were found at their residence around Allen Avenue, in the Ikeja area of Lagos State. It was gathered  that the couple were at home with their domestic worker on the day of the governorship and state House of Assembly elections when some yet-to-be-identified persons invaded the premises and killed the couple. After perpetrating the crime, the suspects reportedly attacked the domestic worker, beat her till she lost consciousness, and fled. Following the attack, it was learnt that neighbours who got wind of the information, while lamenting over the events that claimed the lives of the aged couple during the invasion of their residence, rushed to the premises to ascertain the condition of the victims.   The governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has congratulated Bola Tinubu on his emergence as the president-elect following the conclusion of the 2023 elections. In a statement he personally signed on Tuesday, the governor also congratulated Tinubu’s closest opponents for their courageous and impressive outing. Soludo, who had in the past called for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, also appealed to Tinubu to release the Biafran agitator immediately after inauguration. While commending INEC for the successful completion of the general elections, he noted that “we must seriously continue to reform and strengthen our electoral processes and citizens’ political participation as we march towards a more perfect system”.   Kanayo O. Kanayo (left) and Peter Obi Nollywood veteran actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo has raised concerns over the safety of the Labour Party (LP), presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Kanayo O. Kanayo disclosed that Nigerians should watch out because Obi would soon be arrested. He alleged that some people are conspiring against the LP flag bearer, adding that he feels like something fishy is about to happen. In an Instagram post, the veteran actor said: “Peter Gregory Obi will soon be arrested, Watch Out. The conspiracy is brewing, you want to bet?” The All Progressives Congress (APC), Presidential Campaign Council, had called for Obi’s arrest for allegedly inciting violence. Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, accused Obi of making inflammatory statements following his loss at the presidential election.

  The deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Lagos State, Funke Akindele, has deleted some posts relating to politics and the PDP from her Instagram page. Reports on Monday showed that the posts visible on her page of 15.7 million followers were mainly that of her movie promotion and other personal posts. Akindele and her principal, Abdul-Azeez Adediran aka Jandor, were defeated by the incumbent governor and All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in Saturday’s election.
