  The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, has passed on. He  was 83 years old. The top Yoruba monarch died in the late hours of Friday, according to palace officials. Adeyemi died at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.  The late Alaafin’s first son, Prince ‘Tunde, and other children had received the monarch’s remains at Idi-Igba, Oyo town early Saturday morning. Palace sources confirmed that traditional rites had begun without giving details about his burial arrangement yet. Adeyemi ruled for 52 years before his demise, making him the longest-reigning Alaafin. By tradition, the head of the Oyomesi, Basorun of Oyo, High Chief Yusuf Ayoola, would take over pending the appointment of a new Alaafin. Manchester United board have refused Erik Ten Hag’s proposal to appoint Steve McClaren as his assistant manager at Old Trafford. Manchester United on Thursday finally announced the signing  of the Ajax coach on a three-year deal – with the option for a fourth. Ten  Hag will officially take over the reins at Old Trafford, replacing Ralf Rangnick once the season is over. Ten Hag wants to bring his existing coaching set-up at Ajax with him to Manchester United but he also wants to add someone with knowledge of the Red Devils to his backroom staff. However , according to the Telegraph, Manchester United’s board have shown ‘resistance’ to the idea and there is uncertainty over whether Ten Hag will get his way.   Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson repeatedly punched a passenger on a plane about to fly out of San Francisco after reportedly becoming irritated by the man’s attempts to talk to him. Cell phone footage showed Tyson leaning over the back of his seat and delivering a flurry of blows to the man, who appeared to be left with bruises and some bleeding in the incident on Wednesday. “Iron Mike” was initially friendly to the passenger and his friend when they boarded the flight but reacted after the man “wouldn’t stop provoking” him, the TMZ entertainment website said. The man “kept trying to talk” to the 55-year-old fighter, it reported. “Tyson had enough of the guy behind him talking in his ear… and told him to chill. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested some youths for organizing a cannabis party in the Asokoro area of the Federal Capital Territory. The party was reportedly organized by a group of ladies on Wednesday night.  It was  gathered that the youth were having a nice time when the NDLEA officers invaded the venue of the revelling. A tweet with the handle  @ezioimmauel,  said about a hundred suspects were arrested. “In the police station right now. Was at a 4/20 party in Asokoro and they busted it. Asokoro, Abuja. There’s hundreds of us in custody right now. Everyone’s still accounted for I think,”  he wrote. The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comments. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is awaiting a ruling from FIFA on a $1million compensation claim by former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr for ‘unfair’ dismissal. Rohr, who was Nigeria's longest-serving manager after taking charge in August 2016, was sacked in December just four weeks before the delayed 2021 Nations Cup kicked off in Cameroun. The NFF had agreed to pay Rohr's salary until the end of his contract, which expires in December 2022, but he went to football's world governing body to demand an additional sum for damages. That claim was contested by the NFF, and a FIFA tribunal examining Rohr's claim for damages concluded last week. American rapper, A$AP Rocky, has been arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department in connection with a shooting that occurred in November 2021. The Department announced via its Twitter page on Wednesday, that the rapper whose legal name is Rakim Meyers, was arrested for assault with a firearm at the Los Angeles International Airport. “33-year-old Rakim Mayers, a Los Angeles resident, also known as music artist A$AP Rocky, has been arrested in connection to a shooting that occurred in the Hollywood area in November of 2021,” the tweet read. LAPD gave details of the November incident, stating that the victim claimed the rapper shot at them after an altercation.
