Graduates Beg Buhari To Sign Bill Abolishing B.Sc, HND Dichotomy

Graduates with Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to give his assent to the bill seeking to abolish the dichotomy between Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) and Higher National Diploma (HND) holders in the country.  They noted that the president’s assent would ensure the growth of polytechnic education in Nigeria.The dichotomy between B.Sc and HND holders in the country especially when it comes to employment has been in national discourse for a long time. The House of Representatives had last Tuesday passed the bill seeking a perpetual end to the dichotomy. The legislation was titled “A Bill for an Act to Abolish and Prohibit Dichotomy and Discrimination between First Degree and Higher National Diploma in the Same Profession/Field for the Purpose of Employment; and for Related Matters.” The bill stipulates some punitive measures against any form of discrimination against holders of HND. Diezani Loses Bid To Recover $40 Million Jewellery Forfeited To Nigerian Government

The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, yesterday dismissed an appeal by the embattled former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, challenging the forfeiture of her $40 million worth of jewellery to the Federal Government. The appellate court held that there was no substance in Alison-Madueke’s bid to overturn the lower court’s order. It affirmed the 2019 judgment of Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court, which forfeited the jewellery, following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The appellate court gave its judgment in an appeal filed by Alison-Madueke marked as Appeal No CA/L/1263/19 between Diezani Alison Madueke and the EFCC. On July 5, 2019, the EFCC had secured an order of the High Court temporarily forfeiting the expensive items to the Federal Government. Lagos Court Narrates How Chidinma Sold Late Super TV Boss’ Laptop For N495,000

A prosecution witness, Mr. Ifeoluwa Oluwo, yesterday, told a Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) how Chidinma Ojukwu, the prime suspect in the murder trial of Super TV Chief Executive Officer, Usifo Ataga, sold the deceased Apple MacBook Laptop to him.   Oluwo, a businessman, in his evidence before Justice Yetunde Adesanya, told the court that he bought the Laptop from the first defendant (Chidinma Ojukwu) for the sum of N495,000.00, after negotiations, on June 18 (two days after the body of Ataga was found at the short service apartment in Lekki). Napoli   striker, Victor Osimhen, is billed to be re-evaluated by doctors in the next 15 days after being discharged from the Ruesch Clinic on Thursday after a successful cheekbone surgery. The Nigeria international suffered facial fractures after a clash of heads with Inter defender Milan Skriniar in Napoli’s 3-2 loss to the champions on Sunday – their first loss of the season. The doctor who operated on the 22-year-old disclosed that the player required ‘‘six plaques and 18 screws’’ to repair the ‘‘devastating’’ damage. Sweden’s first-ever female prime minister, Magdalena Andersson has dramatically resigned less than 12 hours after being installed over suffering a budget defeat in parliament and then losing her coalition partner in a two-party minority government.   Ms. Andersson said a decision by the Green Party to quit the two-party coalition had forced her to resign but added that she had told the parliamentary speaker she hoped to be appointed prime minister again as the head of a single-party government. Jon Batiste, Justin Bieber led the pack of nominated artistes in the 2022 Grammy Awards announced by the recording academy on Tuesday. The American musician was announced as the top contender with eleven nominations, followed by Justin Bieber and Doja Cat with eight nominations. The academy also announced that, for the first time, there will be 10 nominees in each of the General Field Categories: Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist. Other artistes with the highest nominations are  H.E.R. (8), Billie Eilish (7), and Olivia Rodrigo (7). The 64th annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast by CBS from Los Angeles on January 31, 2022.
