WATCH THE VIDEO: Late Gospel Singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu's Burial Holds Today
About two months after her demise, the burial of ‘Ekwueme’ singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu has been announced. According to her obituary poster, the late gospel singer, who died from complications arising from domestic abuse, will be laid to rest today, June 25, in Abia State.
Prior to her internment, a night of worship was held in Abuja on Thursday, June 23 while a Night of Prayer was also held in Isochi, Umunoci in Abia state yesterday, June 24.
The ‘Ekwueme’ singer died on April 8, 2022, amid widespread allegations by her family, and colleagues that she was battered to death by her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, who is currently on trial. Mr Nwachukwu has denied the allegation and claims she died of lung cancer.
Following her untimely passing, which shook the religious and music world, Several gospel artistes lent their voice to the domestic violence debate, mostly opining that marriage is not a do-or-die affair. Gospel artiste, Nathaniel Bassey, for instance, described the circumstances surrounding the death of the late Osinachi as annoying, noting that her voice thundered and reverberated powerfully in worship.
“I remember how she’d come to me with a smile and humility saying hello when we had to minister at worship events. But She’s with our a lord now. But I can’t help but say, a little early. Let me pray this again my friends, “MAY YOU NOT MARRY YOUR ENEMY” And that you also don’t become an ENEMY to someone else,” he wrote.
Lending his voice to the debate, Obiora Obiwon called out those who opine that the late Osinachi died for the gospel, stating that she was a victim of hate and spousal abuse. According to him, Martyrdom does not involve a Christian being murdered by another Christian or a spouse being murdered by their spouse.
