South African Police Arrest Six Suspects For Murder Of Rapper, AKA

South African police have apprehended six suspects connected with the murder of popular rapper, Kiernan Forbes, mostly known as AKA, and his close friend, celebrity chef and entrepreneur Tebello “Tibz” Motshoane. The duo were murdered on February 10, 2023, while walking with a friend outside a popular Durban restaurant hours before he was to perform at a nearby club. AKA started his musical profession as part of the rap group ‘Entity’ before he ventured into a lone career. Until his demise, he won several awards in South Africa and was lauded globally. He earned Black Entertainment Television and MTV Europe nominations and he was honoured posthumously in the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards. “Fibre Cuts Affecting Voice, Data Services” – MTN Explains Wednesday’s Outage

  Telecommunications company MTN Nigeria has explained that the network outage experienced by its subscribers for the major part of Wednesday was caused by “multiple fibre cuts”. MTN boasts of 87,038,768 subscribers as of December 2023, according to data by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), representing 38.79% of the total market share, the highest in the country by any licensed Mobile Network Operator (MNO). The 87 million subscribers of the MNO experienced difficulty making and receiving calls for hours on Wednesday, fuelling rumours that the NCC had made do its threat that all telcos bar subscribers not linked to the National Identification Numbers (NIN), with February 28, 2024 as deadline. Many subscribers were stranded with some persons visiting MTN offices nearest to them to get explanations. Lagos State Government Arraigns RCCG Pastor For Allegedly Raping And Impregnating Daughter

A pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Emmanuel Orekoya, was on Tuesday arraigned before the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for allegedly raping and impregnating his 17- year-old daughter. The defendant is facing two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and sexual assault preferred against him by the Lagos State Government. It was also gathered that the defendant in the process of having sexual intercourse with his daughter, allegedly impregnated her. The state’s prosecution counsel, Mrs Abimbola Abolade, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in 2017 at Jacob Adeleye Street, Odoeran, Itire area of the state. The prosecutor also told the court that Orekoya sexually assaulted the victim, by inserting his finger inside her vagina and inserting his penis inside her mouth. NLC Suspends Protest, Extends Ultimatum To Federal Government

  The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Tuesday night, suspended its two-day protest all over the country. The Labour, in a communique at the end of its National Executive Council meeting, said the objectives of the protest were achieved on the first day of the demonstration. “Consequently, NEC-in-session resolved as follows: to suspend street action for the second day of the Protest having achieved overwhelming success thus attained the key objectives of the 2-day protest on the first day,” the communique partly read. The artiste, who recognised sickle cell survivors in his recent theatrical production, stated that he was aware of his condition right from infancy. He said, “Warriors out there, no matter what you are going through, I wanna say you can do it. If I can do it, then you can. All my life, I fought with sickle cell, but look at me now I am a superstar.” In a video that is now viral, he thanked God for his prosperous career and widespread fame without suffering any serious health problems. Court Restrains Telecom Operators From Deactivating SIMs Not Linked To NIN

  The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has restrained telecom operators in Nigeria from deactivating or barring any line or sim whose user did not link same to the National Identification Number (NIN). Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa restrained the telecom operators from taking such action while ruling on an application filed by a Lagos-based lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje. The applicant, Ogungbeje had sued the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice; MTN Nigeria Communications Plc and Airtel Networks Nigeria Limited, all of whom were listed as respondents before the court. Court Adjourns Nnamdi Kanu’s Case For Trial

  The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), until 19 March. Binta Nyako, the judge, before whom Mr Kanu is being tried by the Nigerian government for terrorism, fixed the date for commencement of trial. At the adjourned date, the prosecuting lawyer, Adegboyega Awomolo, promised to call at least two witnesses that day. Mr Awomolo’s appearance on Monday is an indication of the Federal Government’s drastic shake-up of its prosecution team. It’s the first time an external prosecutor will be leading the Federal Government’s team since the case started in 2015. Mr Kanu’s trial resumed on Monday following the Supreme Court judgement on 15 December 2023. Three Siblings Die Of Suffocation Inside A Car In Kwara State

Three siblings of the same parents, a boy and two girls, died on Sunday as a result of suffocation in a car parked in their residential quarters in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. Their mother, Shade Silifat, who had gone out to buy Indomie noodles for their school meals on Monday, fainted as a result of the incident that occurred at No. 8, Boluke Line, Zango-Kulende quarters in the Ilorin metropolis. The incident occurred at about 2 pm when the three children locked themselves in the parked car borrowed by their father from his sister within the premises of their quarters. Their mother, who discovered their footwear outside the parked car, raised an alarm after forcing the doors of the car open. It was gathered that the three children were then rushed to Olutayo Clinic, very close to their residence for medical attention.   The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a fake philanthropist and 8 fraudulently obtained bags of rice within Enugu metropolis. The Command’s Spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said in a statement on Sunday in Enugu that the swift response of police operatives serving in the Ogui Police Division led to arrest of one Joseph Nnamani, 45.   The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has resolved to lift some sanctions on Niger Republic, Mali and Guinea. The resolution was taken at the extraordinary summit on the peace, political, and security situation in the ECOWAS sub-region in Abuja on Saturday. While the regional bloc said the political and targeted sanctions on the Niger Republic remain, it lifted some financial and economic sanctions on Guinea and other sanctions on Mali. Following the military coup in Niger Republic on July 26, 2023, which toppled President Mohamed Bazoum, ECOWAS imposed several sanctions on the country.   Aloy Ejimakor and the legal team of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), will move for his bail pending the determination of his trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Nnamdi Kanu has been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS), on orders of the Nigerian Government since June 2021 when he was subjected to extraordinary rendition from Kenya back to the country. Upon his return, the Appeal Court discharged and acquitted Kanu of all charges bordering on terrorism but in December 2023, the Supreme Court had upturned the ruling and returned the case to the Abuja Federal High Court for continuation of trial.   A Delta State High Court sitting in Effurun has refused the application by Nigerian-American singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, seeking a stay of proceedings in the N2 billion suit filed against him by Brownhill Investment Company Limited over the annual ‘Warri Again Concert’ The claimant, in the suit, is praying the court to award N2 billion as general damages against Davido. Besides, the claimant is praying to the court for N150 million as legal and professional fees and an additional N30 million as the cost of filing the suit. Defendants in the suit are David Adeleke a.k.a “Davido,” and his music label, Davido Music Worldwide Limited.   Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has returned to Nigeria about three years after fleeing the country for the Republic of Benin. A statement by Igboho’s spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, confirmed that the Yoruba Nation activist was in the country for his mother’s burial which is scheduled to take place in Igboho and Ibadan. In a video posted online, Mr Adeyemo was seen waving to residents of Igboho town as he entered the town for his mother’s final funeral rites. His mother died while he was incarcerated in the Benin Republic in 2023. The veterinary technologist in charge of the Zoological Garden of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Mr. Olabode Olawuyi, has been killed by a lion on the campus. The management of the institution in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, explained that the incident happened when the deceased was feeding the animals in their den at the garden. Olanrewaju said other members of staff who were at the scene of the incident did everything within their power to rescue the deceased, but the wild cat had already caused severe fatalities on his body.
