Fubara Meets Wike In Abuja

  As  part of an ongoing reconciliation efforts, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has met with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. It was gathered that the meeting was held at Wike’s residence in Abuja. Fubara was led by Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru and Olusegun Osoba, a former Governor of Ogun State. On getting to the residence, it was learnt that Fubara “walked straight into Wike’s living room because that’s a familiar terrain” and he begged the Minister. When the confirmation was sought from an insider who wished to be anonymous, he said:  “There was a meeting and I can confirm that.” On the meeting leading to the end of the state of emergency, he added:  “That I can’t confirm but all I know is that there was a meeting.” This is coming after the meeting between Fubara and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in London. Nigerian Banks Announce SMS Alert Fee Increment To ₦6 From May 1 Over New Tariffs

  G uaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has announced that, starting Thursday, May 1, 2025, its SMS transaction alert fee will rise from ₦4 to ₦6 per message. The bank disclosed this in a notice sent to customers on Wednesday, attributing the adjustment to a recent upward review in telecommunication rates by service providers. The revised fee applies to all customers who receive transaction alerts through SMS. Also, Ecobank Nigeria has announced a revision of its SMS notification charges, increasing the cost from ₦5 to ₦6 per message, effective May 1, 2025. The bank said the upward review, communicated to customers via SMS, is attributed to new tariff structures.   Nigerian businessman, Emeka Okonkwo popularly known as E-Money, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This was confirmed by his friend and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest. Seven Nigerian Nationals Convicted For International Scheme That Defrauded 400 Elderly U.S. Victims Of $6 Million

A 36-year-old man identified as Okezie Bonaventure Ogbata has been handed a 97-month jail term in the United States for his role in a transnational inheritance fraud scheme.   The US Department of Justice announced this in a press statement on Monday, April 28, 2025.   According to the statement, Ogbata was sentenced on Friday, April 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.   With the sentencing, seven Nigerian nationals involved in the fraud scheme have been sentenced. According to court documents, Ogbata was a member of a group of fraudsters that sent personalised letters to elderly victims in the United States over the course of several years.   The letters falsely claimed that the sender was a representative of a bank in Spain and that the recipient was entitled to receive a multimillion-dollar inheritance left for the recipient by a family member who had died overseas years before.   Ogbata and his co-conspirators told a series of...

EFCC Arrests Businessman E-Money Over Alleged Naira And Dollar Abuse

  Nigerian businessman, Emeka Okonkwo, popularly known as E-Money, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for allegedly abusing the Naira and Dollar notes. It was gathered that the socialite was arrested on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos. Sources within the commission on Tuesday said E-Money was arrested for allegedly spraying United States dollars, an act said to be in violation of the Foreign Exchange Act. One of the sources said,  “On Monday night, we arrested E-Money for Naira abuse and defacing foreign currencies. Specifically, he was alleged to have sprayed U.S. dollars, which is against the Foreign Exchange Act. “He was arrested at his Omole, Lagos residence. Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and he will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.” Another source stated that E-Money is currently being flown to Abuja for questioning. One Of The Wanted CBEX Promoter Surrenders To EFCC

  Mr Adefowora Abiodun, one of the suspected promoters of the cryptocurrency trading platform, Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), has voluntarily surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Abiodun, accompanied by his lawyers, turned himself in at the EFCC headquarters at 4 PM on Monday, April 28, and expressed his willingness to cooperate with investigators. The EFCC had last week declared him and seven others wanted over alleged involvement in a fraudulent investment scheme valued at over $1 billion. Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja had granted an application by the EFCC to arrest and detain the suspected CBEX promoters pending the conclusion of investigations and possible prosecution. “I Didn’t Report Ataga’s Death Due To Fear” – Murder Suspect Chidinma Ojukwu

  Chidinma Ojukwu, the prime suspect accused of the murder of Super TV CEO Michael Ataga, told a Lagos State High Court on Monday, April 28, that she did not report the incident to the police out of fear of being wrongly accused. Testifying before Justice Yetunde Adesanya at the Tafawa Balewa Square division of the court, the former 300-level student of the University of Lagos, explained her reluctance stemmed from previous reports of individuals being blamed after reporting crimes. She also admitted she had considered alerting the apartment’s gateman but ended the call due to anxiety. Chidinma, along with co-defendants Adedapo Quadri and her sister Chioma Egbuchu, face a nine-count charge including murder, theft, and forgery. Shallipopi Vows To Boycott Next Headies After Organizers Fail To Present Plaque For Award He Won

  Nigerian singer, Crown Uzama popularly known as Shallipopi has slammed organizers of premier Afrobeats award, The Headies.   He vowed never to attend such an event again.   This comes after having an embarrassing moment at the 17th edition in Lagos on Sunday.   Shallipopi, who lost the keenly contested Next Rated category to his frequent collaborator, Odumodublvck, thought he had gotten a consolation when his song ‘Cast’ was announced as the winner of the Best Rap Single of the Year.   However, on getting to the stage to receive his award, the presenter simply gave Shallipopi a handshake as the organizers reportedly ran out of award plaques midway into the ceremony.   Speaking about the embarrassing incident on his X page on Monday, Shallipopi vowed to boycott the award ceremony henceforth.   He claimed that he didn’t even want the award for the Best Rap Single as he doesn’t consider himself a rapper. Vatican Announces Date For Conclave To Select New Pope

  The Vatican has announced a date for the conclave to select Pope Francis' replacement.   The Vatican said the conclave will meet on Wednesday, May 7 to begin the process for the selection of a new Pope.   Cardinals are expected to convene at the Vatican to begin the process of finding a new pope, who will become the Catholic Church’s 267th leader.   Recall that with the passing of Pope Francis, who presided over the Roman Catholic Church for 12 years, attention has been turned to the selection of his successor.   As part of the process, a conclave is to be held to determine a new pontiff as usually done after a pope’s death or retirement.   Pope Francis had been selected during a conclave after Pope Benedict XVI, citing age and faltering health, stepped down from the post in 2013 after eight years as pontiff.   It was the first time any pope had stepped down from the papacy in nearly six centuries.

Late Gospel Musician Osinachi’s Husband Sentenced To Death By Hanging

  Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel singer, Osinachi, was sentenced to death by hanging on Monday, April 28, by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court Wuse Zone 2. Nwachukwu was found guilty of culpable homicide resulting in the death of the deceased (his wife) on April 8, 2022. Justice Nwosu-Iheme held that the prosecution had proven the burden of proof placed on it by the law and subsequently found the defendant guilty. Nwachukwu was arraigned on June 3, 2022, by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF), on behalf of the Federal Government, on a 23-count charge. The charge was on culpable homicide punishable by death, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children, criminal intimidation of children, spousal battery, among others. In the course of trial, the prosecution called 17 witnesses, including two children of the late Osinachi, who testified as fourth and fifth prosecution witnesses, PW4 and PW5, respectively. Nigerian Dentist Shot Dead By Neighbour During Dispute Over Loud Music In The US

    A Nigerian dentist, Dr. Akintunde Bowden has been shot dead in the US by a neighbour over loud music.   It was gathered that the popular dentist was shot and killed inside his apartment building.   Keionna McGowan sobbed in court on Thursday when she was charged with gunning down her neighbor, Dr. Akintunde Bowden, after he allegedly asked her to turn down her music on Apr. 19, according to WISN 12.   The 27-year-old was inside her northern Milwaukee apartment listening to tunes when she heard a banging on her front door, according to the criminal complaint reviewed by WISN 12.   McGowan told police that she witnessed Bowden, 41, acting aggressively and believed that he was “intoxicated.”   She allegedly opened her door and agreed to lower the volume of her music, but those assurances reportedly didn’t de-escalate the situation.   McGowan claimed she closed the door, but Bowden kicked it.   She allegedly grabbed a gun, reopened the door, ...

  The Nigerian police are looking for a 36-year-old housewife, INRE Abiola Sholedolu Abiola for engaging in lesbian act. It was gathered that she was allegedly caught engaging in a lesbian act with her 23-year-old neighbour’s daughter, Yetunde, in their Ikorodu neighbourhood.   The incident took place at their residence on Michael Enahoro Street, Maya, Ikorodu, in 2024.   According to the police, Abiola’s relationship with Yetunde began after she moved to Ikorodu following her marriage.   Investigations have revealed that Abiola, who identifies as bisexual, has been involved in same-sex relationships since her secondary school days and continued these acts after her marriage.   Her most recent encounter was uncovered when neighbours grew suspicious of her increasing closeness with Yetunde.   Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has added four more eminent Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), to his legal team.   This is coming ahead of his resumed trial.   Kanu’s trial resumed before Justice James Omotosho-led Federal High Court in Abuja on April 29.   The new additions include Prof Onyechi Ikpeazu, Emeka Etiaba, Mela Audu Nunghe, and Joseph Akubo.   Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed this in a notice informing the court of lawyers, families, and friends that would be attending Kanu’s trial.   The notice by Ejimakor reads partly:  “UPDATE: In addition to Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN & Uchenna Njoku, SAN, 4 more SANs have joined MAZI NNAMDI KANU’s legal team.   “They’re: Prof Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, Emeka Etiaba, SAN, Mela Audu Nunghe, SAN & Dr. Joseph Akubo, SAN.
