  The United States President, Donald Trump has again extended a deadline for owners of the popular video app TikTok to sell to non-Chinese buyers or be banned in the US. The executive order announced on Friday would extend the deadline by 75 days. Trump had previously extended a January deadline set out in the law passed by the US Congress last year. “My Administration has been working very hard on a Deal to SAVE TIKTOK, and we have made tremendous progress,” Trump posted on the Truth Social network, which he owns. He added “the deal requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed.” “We look forward to working with TikTok and China to close the Deal,” Trump said.   The identities of the alleged staff of former First Lady Patience Jonathan, who were held in Bayelsa State’s Okaka Correctional Centre since 2019 over unproven accusations of theft, have surfaced. The workers reportedly languished behind bars without a court conviction, as their trial has been delayed repeatedly, allegedly under the orders of the influential former First Lady of Nigeria. It was gathered that the workers have been incarcerated without a competent court trial for an alleged robbery case involving Patience Jonathan’s jewelry.   A  group, South African Political organisation, ActionSA, has called for the immediate deportation of South Africa-based Nigerian televangelist, Timothy Omotoso, after he was discharged and acquitted for rape and human trafficking by the Gqeberha High Court. Omotoso, along with his co-accused, Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho, were released on Wednesday, April 2, after spending eight years in detention. The 66-year-old senior pastor of Jesus Dominion International Church in South Africa, Omotoso, faced allegations of raping and trafficking young women, including members of the gospel group, Grace Galaxy and school-aged girls. Arrested in 2017, Omotoso was charged with multiple offences, including sexual assault and human trafficking. His church, located in the coastal city of Port Elizabeth, was eventually shut down after angry crowds gathered around the building in protest.   China has imposed 34% tariffs on imports from the United States US.   This is coming hours after President Donald Trump unveiled the same amount against Beijing under his reciprocal tariff plan.   The new China tariffs against the US are expected to go into effect on April 10, according to The Wall Street Journal.   China’s Ministry of Commerce said on Friday that the tariff, which matches Trump’s latest increase in duties on Beijing, would be imposed on all imported goods from the United States.   Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, who also confirmed this at a briefing in Beijing, lamented that the US announced tariff hikes on imports from many countries, including China, under the pretext of reciprocity.   According to him, Trump’s tariffs “gravely violate” World Trade Organization rules, stressing that it undermines the rules-based multilateral trading system.   Recall that the developments are moving the world closer to a full-blow...

  A  former domestic worker, who was imprisoned since 2019 on the alleged orders of the former First Lady Patience Jonathan, has allegedly revealed harrowing details of the brutal torture she and others faced during their detention. The shocking accounts, made public through a handwritten note describe the former First Lady’s direct involvement in the abuse. The note, written by one of the detainees at the Okaka Correctional Centre in Bayelsa State, alleges that Patience Jonathan personally supervised and participated in the torture of domestic workers detained without trial since 2019. The note outlines severe acts of violence inflicted on the workers, which allegedly included hanging, beating with whips, sticks, and machetes. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has said that he is confident he will be granted bail this April after being in detention for four years. Kanu stated this to the President-General of the Igbo Community Association (ICA), in Abuja, the FCT, Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, when he visited him at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja, where he is being held. In a statement issued by Ezenekwe after his visit to the detained IPOB leader, he affirmed that Kanu expressed disappointment over the lack of strong Igbo leadership and calls for his release, while also urging renewed advocacy for the region’s interests.   Amazon has made a last-minute bid to buy TikTok, which faces a US ban if not sold by its Chinese owner, the New York Times reported on Wednesday. The offer arrived in a letter to officials involved in talks regarding the sale of TikTok to appease US national security concerns. Amazon declined to comment on the report. President Donald Trump has downplayed risks that TikTok is in danger of being banned in the United States, saying he remains confident of finding a buyer for the app’s US business by a Saturday deadline. Popular Nigerian televangelist, Timothy Omotoso, has been discharged and acquitted by the High Court in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, South Africa of all charges of rape and human trafficking levelled against him. Recall that Omotoso was arrested on April 20, 2017. Omotoso and his co-accused, two co-accused, Lusanda Sulani, 41, and Zikiswa Sitho, 33, who have been on trial for eight years, were found not guilty of the charges preferred against them. The 66-year-old and his two co-accused faced 32 counts of charges which included racketeering, trafficking in persons, rape and sexual assault. Dismas Mutai, a Kenyan man from Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, has been left heartbroken after losing KSh 2.8 million (approximately ₦33 million) intended for his studies abroad to sports betting. Dismas Mutai reportedly lost the substantial sum while betting on Aviator, an online gambling platform, and has since taken to social media to seek assistance from well-wishers, including politicians. He expressed his distress and admitted that the loss had affected his mental well-being. “I’m not okay; I will no longer pretend to be okay. I have fallen into a disastrous trap.   Controversial Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye popularly known as Bobrisky has revealed that news of him getting arrested by Immigration is an 'April Fools’ Day prank.   Recall that Bobrisky had sparked concern after claiming in a social media post that he had been arrested and was unaware of the reason.   He wrote:  “Guys, have just been arrested by immigration in Nigeria. I don’t know what I did o”.   Although the prank has been revealed, it’s worth noting that Bobrisky has a history of legal troubles, including a previous arrest at the Seme border.   The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) had also confirmed an arrest, stating Bobrisky was a “person of interest” in an ongoing investigation, but the exact reason remains unclear.

Three mortuary attendants were almost lynched by angry youths on Monday, March 31, in Obingwa council area in Abia state over the missing testicle of a man deposited in the facility where they worked. It was gathered that a family who had deposited their son’s remains at the facility had gone to retrieve him for burial when one of their daughters insisted that the corpse be undressed for observation before they left the mortuary. Following the request, the corpse, which was already dressed inside the coffin, was undressed, and the testicle was found missing. The situation allegedly angered youths of the surrounding communities who had accompanied the family to the mortuary.   The  Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement has announced plan to stage a nationwide protest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's state of emergency in Rivers State.   The group is known for organizing the 2024 #EndBadGovernance protests.   The group said it will also be protesting against the alleged misuse of the Cybercrime Act to suppress activists, journalists, and social media influencers.    The protest, set for April 7, 2025, has been described as a “Nationwide Protest Against Bad Governance and Free Speech Suppression.”   Supporters are expected to gather at the National Assembly in Abuja, while other locations will be announced soon.    Juwon Sanyaolu, the National Coordinator of TIB, stated in an interview with the newsmen that the primary demand is the repeal of the Cybercrime Act, which he claims is being weaponized to silence free speech.  “The issue revolves around how the Cybercrime Act is used to target journalists, activists, an...

  Controversial Nigerian crossdresser and socialite, Bobrisky has cried out on social media after he was arrested again.   The socialite claimed in a post on Tuesday that he was arrested by the Nigerian immigration authorities upon his return to Nigeria.   Alarming the public about the development, Bobrisky posted on his Instagram story, saying he had just been arrested without being informed of his offense.   “Guys, I have just been arrested by immigration in Nigeria.   MultiChoice, owners of Dstv and Gotv has seen its revenue crash.   This is as Africa’s leading entertainment provider and operator DStv warned shareholders to brace for tougher times as the company struggles in a challenging economic climate.   The pay-TV giant also saw its subscriber base, dropping from over 23 million to 19.3 million in less than two years.   According to reports, sources said that a significant portion of the losses occurred outside South Africa, with over 84% of the affected users being DStv customers.   In an earlier statement, MultiChoice attributed the steep decline to economic pressures in key markets, particularly Nigeria.  “The loss in the rest of Africa has been primarily due to the significant consumer pressure in Nigeria, where inflation has remained above 30% for the majority of the last 12 months and, more recently, due to extreme power disruptions in Zambia,”  the company said.   The company’s latest voluntary op...
