These odours then stimulate receptors in the mosquitoes’ antenna. Scientists have tried deleting these receptors in attempts to make humans undetectable to mosquitoes. However, even after knocking out an entire family of odour-sensing receptors from the mosquito genome, mosquitoes still find a way to bite us. A group of researchers, found that mosquitoes have evolved redundant fail-safes in their olfactory system that make sure they can always smell our scents, according to a publication in the Journal Cell. Court Blocks Extradition Of Disgraced Nigerian ‘Super Cop’ To U.S., Dismisses Government’s Application

  A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit instituted by the Nigerian Government seeking to extradite the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari to the United States of America. Kyari is wanted in the US over alleged conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering and identity theft. A grand jury on April 29, 2021, filed an indictment against him with the approval of the US district court for the Central District of California, after which a warrant was issued for his arrest. In July 2021, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) indicted Kyari in a $1.1 million fraud involving Abdulraman Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, a self-confessed international fraudster. In August 2021, Usman Baba, Inspector-General of Police, received the report of a panel set up to probe the allegation against the officer. The report was thereafter sent to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), who then filed an extradition application against Kyari on March 2. Justic...

DSS Releases Mama Biafra

  Mrs Ukamaka Ejezie, popularly known as Mama Biafra, has regained her freedom from the alleged detention by the Director of State Service (DSS). It was gathered on Sunday from the lead counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, that she was freed last Saturday evening. He added that “she was arrested on the 18th day of May 2022 outside the court premises, after hearing on Nnamdi Kanu case was concluded on that day in Abuja.” Ejiofor said that, “I am very delighted to inform you all that Mrs Ukamaka Ejezie (Mama Biafra) has regained her freedom. Community sources told some reporters that the deceased attended a traditional marriage ceremony of 31-year-old Obinna Dike at Obollor-Eke in Udenu Council Area on August 26. "After the ceremony, they returned and continued with the celebration. Regrettably, on the following morning, being Saturday, August 27, none of them came out of the room where they slept. "Disturbed by the development, some residents broke their doors and six persons including the bridegroom were found dead with foamy discharge from their mouths. U.S Court Confirms Hushpuppi’s Sentence Date, Silent On Disgraced Nigerian ‘Super Cop’, Abba Kyari’s Extradition

  The United States Attorney’s Office for Central District of California, Los Angeles, says the September 21, 2022 sentence date for alleged international Internet fraudster Ramon Abbas, aka, Hushpuppi, remains unchanged. The court’s Director of Media Relations, Thom Mrozek, disclosed this on Friday in response to an email inquiry by Channels TV. Since Hushpuppi’s conviction last year for alleged $1.1 million fraud, the court has moved his sentence date at least three times. Hushpuppi was initially scheduled for sentencing on February 14 but it was moved to July 11 before it was again postponed to September 21, 2022. Regarding exactly when 39-year-old Hushpuppi would be sentenced by the court, Mrozek said the suspect had pleaded guilty and would be sentenced later this year. “Mr. Abbas is currently scheduled to be sentenced by a federal judge in Los Angeles on September 21,” he said.   Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja High Court in Lagos State sentenced Taiwo Oreagba, a former lawyer to a Nigerian singer, Naira Marley, to two years in prison on Friday for inducing the operatives with N4million bribe. After a two-year trial, Justice Taiwo found Oreagba guilty. Oreagba previously defended "Am I a Yahoo boy?" singer Naira Marley in his ongoing alleged internet crime-related prosecution. The judge said that Oreagba had not refuted the information included in a voice recording in which she was heard boasting about using N4 million to bribe members of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in exchange for a smooth exit for her client. Oreagba was given a two-year prison term for making a corrupt demand by the judge. 3 Women Arraigned After Killing A Mother And Selling Her Twins For 3 Million Naira

  The Enugu State Police Command has arraigned three women for an alleged conspiracy, trafficking of newborn twins and subsequent killing of their mother. This was contained in a statement on Friday by the command’s spokesman Daniel Ndukwe. The statement noted that the suspects; Ukorie Cynthia (25), Onyia Pauline (56) and Aroh Ijeoma (39) were remanded in the Enugu Maximum Correctional Centre on Friday. The statement stated that the trio were first arrested by operatives of the command attached to the Central Police Station Enugu July 26, 2022 following complaints that the suspects had conspired and sold newborn twins of one 31-year-old Chinenye Odoh. The statement noted that the suspects didn’t stop with the selling of the twins, but also murdered their mother by poisoning her food after she realized that the suspects gave her an amount lesser than the amount they sold her babies. MTN Launches 5G Pilot

MTN, in the lead-up to its highly anticipated commercial launch of 5G service in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Kano, Owerri and Maiduguri, kicked off an open 5G pilot today. In testing the next-generation network infrastructure, MTN’s customers with certain enabled devices will be allowed to connect with and try out the new service, where coverage is available. Speaking on the pilot kickoff, Adia Sowho, Chief Marketing Officer, MTN Nigeria, said: “5G has the potential to change everything.” In a statement, MTN explained that to access the 5G network, customers will need compatible devices, such as routers and mobile phones, which can be pre-ordered from designated MTN walk-in stores and online via the MTN Nigeria website and e-marketplace. The pre-ordered devices can be picked up or will be delivered to customers post- the launch event scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.
