The Department of the State Seevices (DSS) has denied having a hand in the death of husband of late NAFDAC boss, Chike Akunyili. In a statement by DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, “The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to an allegation that its operatives killed Dr. Chike Akunyili. Also, the Service was alerted to a social media video claiming that the “Nigerian DSS” murdered security escorts at Nkpor, Anambra State on September 28, 2021. “The Service hereby denies these allegations and wishes to clearly state that they are spurious and illogical. There was no basis for the DSS to kill the Medical Doctor and/or fellow law enforcement agents. The Service cherishes life and believes in the rule of law. “The public should therefore be wary of the false narratives by those desirous of using it (the Service) to cover up their heinous acts. Nigerians have condemned the killing of Dr Chike Akunyili, husband of late former Director General of NAFDAC and minister for information, Prof Dora Akunyili by unidentified gunmen. Reports has it that Dr Chike Akunyili was killed alongside his driver and escort on Tuesday on his way from Onitsha to Umuoji at Eke Nkpor. It was learnt that Akunyili had attended a lecture at Sharon Hall, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha,which was organized by the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA), Onitsha branch, in honour of his late wife, Prof Dora Akunyili. His death has stirred reactions from Nigerians who took to social media condemning the Buhari-led government over incessant killings by gunmen in the country. Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has announced his retirement from the sport to focus on his political career. The multi-division world champion, who is a senator in his native Philippines, has already announced his intention to run for president in the country’s 2022 elections. The 42-year-old’s final fight was a defeat by Cuba’s Yordenis Ugas in Las Vegas last month, BBC reports.  “I just heard the final bell. Boxing is over,” said Pacquiao. In a video posted on social media, Pacquiao described retiring as the “hardest decision” of his life, adding boxing had given him “the chance to fight my way out of poverty” and “the courage to change more lives”. Celebrities and royals walk the red carpet in central London on Tuesday for the star-studded but much-delayed world premiere of the latest James Bond film, “No Time To Die”. British actor Daniel Craig’s fifth and final outing in the blockbuster franchise hits big screens after its release was repeatedly postponed during the coronavirus pandemic. The film will premiere at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall, with royal couples Prince Charles and Camilla and Prince William and Kate set to attend. It is part of a backlog of major productions held back by distributors during the pandemic, hitting cinemas hard, and forcing some new films to be streamed. The producer of the James Bond franchise, Barbara Broccoli has said she believes that the 007 will always be a male character. The head of Eon Productions, who is in charge of every key hiring and firing in the franchise, said she will be discussing who will take over the role from Daniel Craig next year – and that it will be a man, Dailymail reports. A die-hard fan of American basketball legend, Michael Jordan, has taken his fan love to a new height as the fan bought Jordan’s used underwear for about $2,784, which is approximately N1.15 Million. The lucky Jordan fan bought a one-of-a-kind pair of the basketball star’s boxers at the Lelands Auction on Saturday night — with the final bid coming in at $2,784, TMZ reports. The grey and black boxer short was a part of the auction in August and the company stated that the underwear has evidence of ‘definite use’ by Michael Jordan. Moreso, there are some loose threads and a dry cleaning tag attached to the boxers short. It was gathered that there were 19 bids for the piece of underwear.  It was learnt that Lelands secured the garment from Jordan’s friend and bodyguard, John Michael Wozniak, who recently featured in the sport’s man biopic, The Last Dance. Wozniak also gave the company other items worn by MJ like suits, coats, dress shirts, and ties that were included in the auction.

American actor Michael K. Williams, who starred as Omar Little in the widely acclaimed television series   The Wire , died of an accidental drug overdose, authorities said Friday. The 54-year-old, who played the iconic Baltimore stick-up man in the groundbreaking show, was found dead earlier this month in his apartment in New York. The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner said in a statement that the cause of Williams’ death was “acute intoxication by the combined effects of fentanyl, p-fluorofentanyl, heroin and cocaine.” The death was an accident, according to officials. The Emmy-nominated actor had been widely hailed for his role in “The Wire,” in which he played a gay armed robber who specialized in holding up drug dealers. He received multiple Emmy nominations for his work on various shows and films. The series became one of the most popular shows on television and ran through five seasons from 2002 until 2008. Nigerian singer, Korede Bello, has received a Recording Industry Association of America, gold certification for his hit song “Do Like That”. The excited singer shared this on this verified Instagram page on Thursday, as he shared a picture of the gold certification. According to the certification, the song, which was released on September 13, 2016 received it’s gold certification after 0.5 million certified units were sold. The certification was dated September 20, 2021, roughly five years after the song was released under the popular Nigerian record label, Mavin Records. Celebrating the win, Korede Bello wrote, “Family, congratulations to us. Big love to all my fans around the world streaming #KoredeBello music. This is because of you.” Bello also acknowledged the song producer and Chief Executive Officer of the Mavin Records saying, “We struck gold with this record @burssbrain @donjazzy.” Hinting at releasing new songs, Bello told his fans to”stay tuned for more.”

Former supermodel Linda Evangelista says she has been permanently disfigured by a fat-reduction cosmetic procedure that backfired and caused her to look bloated and unrecognizable. Evangelista, 56, said she underwent “CoolSculpting” five years ago and that it had the rare side effect of causing her fat cells to increase rather than decrease. One, Lambert Osundu, 54 and his daughter, Rachael Osundu, 24 from Umueze 11 in Ehime-Mbano Council Area of Imo State have been arrested for killing their son, Chukwuebuka Osundu, 20 years.   Reporters  learnt the victim was beaten to death by his father and his elder brother, Ndubuisi Osundu,  who is currently at large.    They subsequently buried his corpse in a shallow grave beside their house in the night.  To cover the crime, the suspects were said to have  told the victim’s friends and villagers that the deceased had travelled to Ghana in search of greener pasture,” a reliable source said.   It was further gathered that the suspects had accused the deceased of being stubborn and indulging in vices that bring bad name to the family.   It also gathered that one of their relatives, who sensed foul play over the vicitm’s sudden disappearance, informed some youths of the village, who thereafter intensified his search.   An indigene of the village, who spoke with some reporters in confi
