  The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a painter, Moses Olaitan, and his accomplice, Segun Omoshola, for allegedly impersonating the Elegushi of Ikate land, Oba Saheed Elegushi, and using his image to defraud a woman they met on Facebook of N51m.   Parading the suspect before newsmen on Thursday, April 29, the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, said the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at the station.   The Lagos State police boss, Hakeem Odumosu, yesterday, said the police were yet to release a Nollywood actor, James Olanrewaju, known as Baba Ijesha, who is in their custody for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl. Odumosu said this yesterday at the command headquarters, Ikeja, when he paraded suspected criminals. According to him, the suspect is still in police custody pending advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) on the matter before further decisions would be taken. He said: “We have to make some clarifications about the aspect of defilement and indecent assaults.   The Directors of First Bank of Nigeria Limited has approved the appointment of. Gbenga Shobo as the new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Shobo succeeds Sola Adeduntan, who will be leaving the bank in accordance with the bank’s term limit for its Chief Executive, after successfully leading the bank since January 2016. Until the appointment, Shobo was the bank’s Deputy Managing Director. Newly released court documents disclosed the amount Kathryn Mayorga is seeking after accusing the footballer of sexually assaulting her in a Las Vegas hotel room after meeting on a night out in 2009. The former model wants £18m for “past pain and suffering”, £18m for “future pain and suffering” and £18m in punitive damages.     The 37-year-old’s expenses rack up to £1.4m with legal fees of £1.1m giving a total of £56.5m, which is two years of the Juventus star’s salary. The boxing exhibition between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul, is now set to take place June 6 from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.   Mayweather, a five-weight world champion with a 50-0 record, was originally due to take on YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul on February 20, before it was postponed.    Announcing the fight on Instagram, Mayweather wrote: "Me and Logan Paul will be fighting at the Hardrock Stadium. Mayweather last fought professionally in August 2017 when he stopped UFC star Conor McGregor in the 10th round. It was McGregor's first and, only professional boxing match.   Mayweather also took on Japanese kickboxer and mixed martial artist Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition match in December 2018, recording a first-round knockout.   Paul has only one fight on his record, a split-decision loss to fellow YouTuber KSI in November 2019.

  Football stars, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku have been fined for unsportsmanlike conduct after the pair clashed during January's Milan Derby at the San Siro. The strikers, who play for AC Milan and Inter respectively, had a bust-up during the Coppa Italia quarter-final, which Inter won 2-1 after Ibrahimovic was later sent off.   The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) said on Monday that Ibrahimovic had been fined 4,000 euros (£3,477), Lukaku 3,000 euros (£2,608), AC Milan 2,000 euros (£1,738), and Inter 1,250 euros (£1,086).   A pair of Nike Air Yeezy 1s worn by rapper Kanye West   sold for $1.8 million, triple the previous record for sneakers, Sotheby’s said Monday. The shoes beat the record held by a pair of Nike Air Jordan 1s which sold for $615,000 in August 2020 at a Christie’s auction. “The sale marks the highest publicly recorded price for a sneaker sale ever,”  Sotheby’s said in a statement. Sotheby’s said it also marks the first pair of sneakers to top $1 million. The black high-top Yeezys were worn by West during the 2008 Grammy Awards as he performed “Hey Mama” and “Stronger.” The sneakers, which were part of a collaboration between Nike and West, were prototypes, with the resulting model not going on sale until April 2009.   A Nigerian man, Folajimi Olubunmi-Adewole, on Saturday died after jumping into the Thames to save a woman who had fallen from London Bridge. Folajimi’s family said the deceased had a “very good heart” and accused search teams of giving up too quickly. Folajimi, known as Jimi, was on his way home from work when he saw the woman fall. He and another man entered the water at around midnight on Saturday in a bid to rescue her. But the coastguard and the Met Police’s marine unit rescued the woman and the other man. A body, thought to be Olubunmi-Adewole’s, was found six hours later. Formal identification has not yet taken place, BBC reported on Monday. “He is a very unique and angelic soul, and I am proud of him, so proud, and I want the world to know he is the deepest and most wonderful man,” Jimi’s 63-year-old father Michael Adewola told Sun newspaper. “He is a hero, and always will be.   The Imo state police command has debunked report of the state house of assembly being set on fire.    A video of an alleged fire at the state House of Assembly had gone viral on Sunday night, April 26.   Reacting to the video, Imo police spokesperson Orlando Ikeokwu said the building on fire was not the State House of Assembly nor any building in the area.    Ikeokwu also confirmed that motorists were robbed in Orji area of Owerri, in an attack which left four persons with bullet injuries. Victims of the attack have been taken to the Federal Medical Center, Owerri for treatment.

  MTN customers in Nigeria will be unable to buy data on their phones effective 12 midnight till 6am on Sunday, the telecommunication company has said. This was contained in a notice by the mobile network operator on Friday night titled, ‘Service Upgrade Notice’. “Due to an upgrade, data purchase will be unavailable from 12 midnight to 6am on April 25th, 2021. “If you can, please recharge and buy a data bundle before this time. Apologies for inconvenience,” the notice read. MTN, with about 77 million subscribers, making up about 45 per cent of the total telecommunication market share in Nigeria, is arguably the largest telecommunication operator in the country. The mobile network operator and commercial banks have been enmeshed in a war of late over the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data charges. One of the performances that stood out from last night’s auditions was from Winning, a 22-year-old producer, who performed a self-written song much to the admiration of the audience and judges. Another outstanding performer was Faith Jason. Faith’s rendition of All Time Low by Jon Bellion was so good that Seyi Shay stood up to personally hand him a golden ticket and named him one of her favourites this season.   Manchester United legend, Ryan Giggs has been charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend and controlling or coercive behaviour at his £1.7m mansion. Giggs, 47, is accused of causing actual bodily harm to PR worker Kate Greville, 36, at the property in Worsley, Greater Manchester, in November.   American Singer, Kehlani has come out as lesbian and she says she's the last one in her family to know she's gay.   The singer disclosed this on Thursday, April 22.   She said in a video: "I am gay ga-gay gay gay!!!"   Kehlani says she's been trying to have intimate conversations with her family and friends about coming out, but she says they are hardly shocked.   She said her loved ones told her they've known for a while because "the f**king closet was glass."   She previously hinted at being gay during a recent Instagram Live when she casually said she finally knew she was lesbian. At the time, people thought she might have been joking, but now Kehlani's saying it clearly.   Kehlani has a 2-year-old daughter, Adeya Nomi, with her ex, guitarist Javie Young-White. She has also dated some famous men, including YG and NBA star Kyrie Irving.

  Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has shared a post on her IG page, hours after the demise of comedienne, Ada Jesus.   Rita Edochie was one of those Ada Jesus sought forgiveness from before her demise. The comedienne allegedly spoke ill of the actress as well as her pastor, Prophet Odumeje and some others. Mrs Edochie initially insisted she wasn't going to forgive Ada Jesus but later did after many pleaded on her behalf.   Following Ada Jesus's demise, many people went on her social media handles to attack her.    Posting on her IG page this morning, Rita Edochie said God has made her a strong woman and that she will remain.  Her post reads; ''JEEEEESUS is LORD forever LORD ALMIGHTY MADE ME A STRONG WOMAN AND THAT I WILL REMAIN.   Stephanie Frappart will become the first female official to officiate at a men's European Championships this summer after UEFA confirmed the list of referees for this year's tournament.   The female referee will be involved as a support match official, working either as a fourth official or a reserve assistant referee at the tournament.   In the past two years, Frappart became the first female to referee a Ligue 1 match, a Champions League match, and a World Cup qualifier.   Frappart oversaw the Netherlands' 2-0 win over Latvia in March, becoming the first woman to referee a men's World Cup Qualifier.   In 2019, the 37-year-old refereed the UEFA Super Cup game between Liverpool and Chelsea and the Women's World Cup final when the Netherlands lost to the USA.   She took charge of Leicester City's clash with Ukrainian side Zorya Luhansk in her debut Europa League game last October.   Meanwhile, premier League officials Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor...

  A popular Nigerian Comedienne, Mercy Cynthia Ginikachukwu popularly known as Ada Jesus, has died just two days after celebrating her birthday. She died in an Abuja hospital today Wednesday, April 21.    She suffered a cardiac arrest on Tuesday night, April 20 and was rushed to the ICU where the doctors monitored her.   Former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin was last night taken to a maximum-security prison and placed on suicide watch after being found guilty on all three counts of murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.   Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all counts Tuesday, April 20 in the Hennepin County courtroom, where jurors spent three weeks listening to testimony about the day Floyd died under the weight of the 45-year-old officer's knee during an arrest on May 25, 2020.     Judge Peter Cahill thanked the jury on behalf of the state of Minnesota for not only jury service but 'heavy-duty jury service'.    Chauvin was taken in handcuffs from the courtroom as Judge Peter Cahill immediately revoked his bail pending sentencing.   The United Nations (UN) has credited the mobile sector for achieving a critical breakthrough towards its mission of combating climate change, as operators representing more than a third of the industry by revenue pledged to deliver net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Industry association, GSMA stated the latest figures advanced the mobile industry’s already leading position in achieving the goals of the UN Race to Zero campaign, which aims to secure emissions commitments from various sectors.
