“Police Refused To Rescue Abducted Priest Until I Paid N1 Million For Logistics” – Father Ebube Muonso

  Spiritual Director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Anambra State, Rev Fr Emmanuel Obimma, popularly known as Father Ebube Muonso has slammed the Nigerian police.   This followed the death of a reverend father that was recently kidnapped.   According to him, security in Anambra has broken irretrievably.   Obimma said this while presenting a priest simply identified as Rev Fr Nonso to his congregation, after his release from kidnappers, a week after he was abducted and taken into the forrest by gunmen.   Nonso, it was gathered, was kidnapped on December 17 in Anambra State, shortly after his return for the Christmas holiday from abroad, where he was studying.   Obimma, while presenting Nonso to the congregation, said:  “For a week, Father Nonso was in the hands of kidnappers. DEFILEMENT: Lagos State Government Heads To Supreme Court Over Dr Olaleye’s Acquittal

  The  Lagos State Government has said it will challenge an Appeal Court judgement acquitting 58-year-old medical director Dr Olufemi Olaleye of the alleged offence of defiling his wife’s niece. The state has now filed an appeal at the Supreme Court seeking to overturn the judgment of the Court of Appeal that discharged and acquitted   Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court had on October 24, 2023, found Olaleye guilty of the two-count charge of defilement of a child and sexual assault by penetration brought against him by the Lagos State government.   The judge stated that the defendant’s confessional statement, made before his lawyer, Olalekan Buruji, and the DPO of Anthony Police Station, that he regretted his act, proved that he committed the offences.   However, in November 2024, the Court of Appeal acquitted Olaleye, citing errors in the lower court’s judgment. Man Planning To Propose On New Year's Eve Dies In Christmas Day House Fire While Searching For The Ring

An American man has tragically lost his life in a house fire on Christmas Day while searching for the engagement ring which he planned to use to propose to his girlfriend on New Year's Eve. According to FOX affiliate KTVU, Oakland fire crews were alerted to the blaze in the 3500 block of Oak Knoll Boulevard around 6:15 a.m. local time on Wednesday, December 25. Firefighters who were searching the home eventually found the man unconscious inside. The victim has been identified by relatives as 37-year-old Steven Weatherford Jr., according to KTVU and FOX affiliate KGO. Weatherford was reportedly looking for an engagement ring when he was apparently overcome by the smoke and fire. Family said he was planning on using the ring to propose to his girlfriend on New Year’s Eve. Plane Carrying 181 Passengers Crashes In South Korea

On Sunday, a passenger plane which was carrying 181 people onboard crashed in the South Korean city of Muan. The plane, Jeju Air, which had malfunctioning landing gear veered off the runway, hit a fence, before going up in flames at the airport. The Jeju Air jetliner was carrying 175 passengers and six crew when it crashed on landing at the airport in Muan county. The ill-fated plane was returning from Bangkok in Thailand when the incident occured. AP News quoted South Korean media as reporting that the fire left over 28 people either dead or injured, while two people were evacuated to safety. South Jeolla province Fire Service Headquarters said that the number is expected to grow as recovery operations continue. The office said the fire was put out and rescue officials were trying to remove passengers from the aircraft. However, a fire department official who spoke to CNN said the airplane had been “almost completely destroyed” by fire.

Workers Escape Death As 2-Story Building Collapses In Umuahia

A two-story building, which was still under construction, has collapsed in Abia State. The incident happened at No. 20 Ozuitem Street, Umuahia, the Abia State capital. The building, said to be owned by a “very wealthy” resident of Umuahia, collapsed on Christmas Day when the site workers had taken the day off. The cause of the collapse has not yet been officially established, but some residents living near the building claimed that substandard materials may have been used by the contractor, which they alleged compromised the integrity of the structure. A resident who pleaded anonymity thanked God for sparing the lives of the site workers, saying: “Yesterday was Christmas Day and there was no work. If not, who knows what would have happened?” He said that the contractor had gone into hiding after realizing what had happened to avoid being arrested or questioned.   Speed Darlington‘s lawyer, Stan Alieke has made damning accusation against singer, Burna Boy.   This is as he reacted to the  continued detention of the singer by the Nigeria Police despite a high court order granting him bail.   In an Instagram video, Alieke alleged that Burna bribed police officers.   Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju has disclosed that the police have refused to grant singer, Speed Darlington, bail despite the order given by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, December 23. The singer has been in police detention since November 27, when he was re-arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri, Imo State for allegedly jumping bail. He was initially arrested in October following a petition written against him by his colleague Burna Boy. Findings show that the singer was granted unconditional bail and that the only thing needed to do is for his legal team to get the ruling to the police legal department for them to minute on it and then send it to the Force Investigation Department FID where the singer is being detained, for compliance. The singer's legal team has since sent the court order to the police department but is yet to get any response or compliance. Osun State Governor Pardons Man Sentenced To Death For Stealing Fowl

  Ademola Adeleke, the Osun State Governor, has granted pardon to the widely known “death-for-fowl” convict, Segun Olowookere, alongside his co-convict, Sunday Morakinyo. Olowookere, who was 17 years old at the time of his arrest in November 2010, was convicted and sentenced to death by an Osun State High Court on December 17, 2014, for conspiracy to commit armed robbery, robbery, and stealing. In a statement titled “Setting the Record Straight” dated December 20 and signed by its Chief Registrar, Omisade F.I., the court said the claims were baseless and intended to malign the judiciary and its officials. The parents of a convict, Olowookere Segun, had granted an interview in which they claimed he was sentenced to death for stealing a fowl. Their interview caught the attention of the Osun state governor, Ademola Adeleke, who directed immediate investigation and pardoning action on the convict's case. “Fuel To Sell At N935 Per Litre Nationwide From Monday” – IPMAN

  The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), has made an announcement that by Monday, December 23, the pump price of petrol will reduce to N935 per litre. The development, according to IPMAN, follows the marketers’ new deal with Dangote Refinery. IPMAN National President, Alhaji Maigandi Garima, who made this known on Sunday in Abuja, commended the Dangote refinery for the development According to him, the new price was necessitated by the reduction in Dangote Refinery’s fuel ex-depot price and uniform arrangement, which would enable marketers to sell at N935 in their outlets nationwide. Recall that Dangote Refinery recently announced a reduction in fuel price by 7.27 per cent from N970 per litre to N899.50 per litre at its loading gantry and provided generous credit terms to marketers. ANAMBRA STAMPEDE: Many People Dead In A Rice Sharing Event

The Nigerian police have confirmed that an undisclosed number of residents from Okija community in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State were killed in a stampede during a rice-sharing event in the community. According to a video of the incident, the victims said to be numbering over 100 including men, women, pregnant women, were stampeded to death on Saturday December 21, 2024 while struggling to get their share of Obijason rice being shared in the community. One of the witnesses who recorded the video, who spoke in Igbo language, showed dead bodies of the said victims at Our Lady’s Hospital in Okija where he made the video.
