  Hollywood actor, Denzel Washington has been ordained as a minister. A young Nigerian man, Segun Olowookere, who got sentenced to death in Osun State for allegedly stealing a chicken, has shared the very painful details of his arrest, detention, and conviction. Olowookere, arrested in 2010 at the age of 17 that the complainant in his case was a family member. The incident that altered his life occurred in November 2010 when he was detained alongside another suspect, Sunday Morakinyo, in Oyan, Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State. The pair were accused of robbing a policeman attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Okuku, Tope Balogun, of two fowls and eggs. Additional allegations stated that they conspired to rob Oguntade Faramade of fowls and eggs worth N20,000, stole two mobile phones from Balogun Taye, and attempted to rob Alhaja Umani Oyewo. “Fuel To Sell At N935 Per Litre Nationwide From Monday” – IPMAN

  The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), has made an announcement that by Monday, December 23, the pump price of petrol will reduce to N935 per litre. The development, according to IPMAN, follows the marketers’ new deal with Dangote Refinery. IPMAN National President, Alhaji Maigandi Garima, who made this known on Sunday in Abuja, commended the Dangote refinery for the development According to him, the new price was necessitated by the reduction in Dangote Refinery’s fuel ex-depot price and uniform arrangement, which would enable marketers to sell at N935 in their outlets nationwide. Recall that Dangote Refinery recently announced a reduction in fuel price by 7.27 per cent from N970 per litre to N899.50 per litre at its loading gantry and provided generous credit terms to marketers. ANAMBRA STAMPEDE: Many People Dead In A Rice Sharing Event

The Nigerian police have confirmed that an undisclosed number of residents from Okija community in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State were killed in a stampede during a rice-sharing event in the community. According to a video of the incident, the victims said to be numbering over 100 including men, women, pregnant women, were stampeded to death on Saturday December 21, 2024 while struggling to get their share of Obijason rice being shared in the community. One of the witnesses who recorded the video, who spoke in Igbo language, showed dead bodies of the said victims at Our Lady’s Hospital in Okija where he made the video. ABUJA STAMPEDE: Police Recover 10 Dead Bodies, Others Hospitalized

  At  least ten bodies have been recovered following the tragic incident at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in the Maitama area of Abuja, where several people were trampled to death on Saturday morning. We had earlier reported that the incident occurred during food distribution at the church premises. Confirming the ugly development, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command in a statement by its spokesperson, Josephine Adeh said ten bodies were recovered. The PPRO said four children and six adults were among those confirmed dead so far. According to her, about eight others were left with varying degrees of injuries. “Four (4) of the injured have been treated and discharged, while the remaining victims continue to receive medical care”,  she said. Josephine added that the  “FCT Police Rapid Response Squad and the FCT Joint Task Force have successfully evacuated the remaining crowd, which numbered over a thousand.”

Court Orders Removal Of Famous Singer, Adele’s Song From Streaming Platforms Over Plagiarism

  A  Brazilian court has ordered the removal of a song by British singer Adele from radio and all global streaming platforms due to alleged copyright infringement. The judge, Vitctor Torres gave the judgment after a Brazil local composer, Toninho Geraes accused Adele of copying works from his 1995 album. Toninho Geraes claimed that Adele’s 2015 song ‘Million Years Ago’, was copied from his 1996 classic, ‘Mulheres’, sung by Martinho da Vila, a Brazilian singer. Geraes is suing for lost royalties, demanding $160,000 in moral damages, and wants a songwriting credit on Adele’s song. The court also threatened Brazilian subsidiaries of Sony and Universal with $8,000 fine  “per act of non compliance.”

TikTok Star, Beandri Booysen Is Dead

  Popular  South African TikToker, Beandri Booysen who was battling with a rare disorder, progeria, which caused her to age eight years for every one year of her life, is dead. She was 19 years old at the time of her passing. The content creator’s mother, Bea Booysen confirmed her passing in a Facebook group dedicated to her daughter. “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Beandri Booysen, one of South Africa’s most beloved and inspirational young women,”  the bereaved parent wrote. “Beandri was not only known for her vibrant personality and infectious laugh but also as the last surviving individual in South Africa living with the rare genetic condition progeria.” Bea added, “ She became a symbol of awareness for progeria and other special needs children using her unique spirit to inspire thousands of people worldwide. Dele Farotimi Granted ₦30 Million Bail, Barred From Media Interviews

Human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, has been granted N30 million bail by the Ekiti State Magistrate Court. He was granted bail on Friday, December 20 2024, over the alleged defamation suit filed against him by Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun while granting the bail application from the defence counsel on Friday said the defendants must provide two sureties with one of them a house owner in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital. The court also held that the defendant should submit his international passport and refrain from granting media interviews both electronic or print pending the determination of the substantive suit. Recall that Farotimi arrived at Ekiti Magistrate Court on Friday for a hearing of alleged defamation charges against him. Startling Story Of Woman Whose Baby Drowned In Bath While She Played Games On Her Phone

  The mother of a seven-month-old baby boy who drowned in the bath while she played games on her phone has been sentenced to seven years in prison for manslaughter. Seven-month-old Charlie Goodall died in February 2022 after he fell from his newly fitted seat inside the tub. Mum Danielle Massey, 31, had put Charlie in the tub and said she left him unattended "briefly" as she fetched a clean towel – but prosecutors at Teesside Crown Court claim Massey ignored Charlie for up to 26 minutes while playing games and even "falling asleep". Massey called for help when she found Charlie unresponsive in the tub. He was airlifted from West Chilton Terrace, County Durham, to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Charlie did not survive. The court heard Massey was arrested and later told a police officer: "It’s all my fault. I killed my baby." IBADAN STAMPEDE: “35 Dead Bodies Recovered, Six In Critical Condition” – Police

  The Oyo State Police Command have revealed the number of dead that have been recovered in the deadly Ibadan stampede.   The police said no fewer than 35 bodies of minors, who were killed in the Ibadan stampede have been recovered.   The Police Public Relations Officer of the state, SP Osifeso Adewale, who confirmed this in a statement on Thursday, said about six minors who sustained severe injuries during the incident, are in critical condition. “So far (35) thirty-five minors have been documented dead while (6) six others are critically injured and on various medical interventions,”  he said.   Recall that a funfair organized by the former Queen of the Ooni of Ife, Prophetess Naomi Shikemi at the Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, had resulted in stampede, leading to the tragic incident.   The Oyo State Police Command said that eight persons involved in sponsoring the event had since been arrested.   The Police spokesman said those arrested incl...

  Tabby  Brown, a Playboy model and former lover of Arsenal’s forward, Raheem Sterling has died. She died shortly after undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) in the Dominican Republic.    An inquest revealed that she had secretly traveled for the procedure, which included liposuction, in October 2023, misleading her family into thinking she was on a sightseeing trip.   Just three days after returning to the UK, the 38-year-old suffered a fatal ‘fat embolism’ at her south London home on October 13. Her mother found her collapsed, and despite emergency services being called, she was pronounced dead shortly after.   The South London Coroners Court reported that Brown had ‘puncture wounds’ in her pelvis and ‘numerous small globules of fat’ in her lungs, leading to her death. Thompson  of the Rivers State High Court has presided over suit number PHC/797/2024, striking out the case filed by a group of persons praying to take over certain properties belonging to a spiritual organisation. The court described the request as incompetent. The group of persons is presently challenging the authority and leadership of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, headquartered in Calabar and founded by its spiritual leader, Olumba Olumba Obu. A South African man, Sbusiso Lawrence has murdered his girlfriend, Nontobeko Cele. He took to Facebook to share a gory photo of her lifeless body riddled with stab wounds. He filmed himself with his face covered in blood, confessing to the murder. The disturbing material went viral late on Tuesday night, 17 December 2024.  The incident reportedly happened in Durban on the same day. The photo shows her lying on her back and facing up, with what appears to be stab wounds on her neck. Her clothing is soaked in blood. In his confession, the killer seemingly justifies his actions, saying the woman had toyed with him and got pregnant for another man while they were still involved. He claims he accepted her child as if it were his own, taking care of them. But, in a twist, the woman ended their relationship.

  Real Madrid winger, Vinicius Jr has been named as FIFA Men’s Player of the Year 2024.   The forward was given the award at the FIFA Best Awards held in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday 17th of December, 2024.   Vinicius and his club teammates had boycotted this year’s Ballon d’Or event, where Manchester City’s Rodri claimed the award.   The Brazilian played a crucial role in Los Blancos’ 2023-24 season, which saw them secure both the Champions League and LaLiga titles.   He contributed 24 goals and 11 assists across all competitions.   Earlier in the evening, Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati won the Women’s Player of the Year award for the second consecutive year.

Ukraine Claims Attack That Killed Russia’s Head Of Chemical Weapons, Kirillov

  Ukraine has claimed it killed a senior Russian general, Lt Gen Igor Kirillov.   This comes after an explosion in Moscow claimed the life of Kirillov.   The explosive device was reportedly hidden in an electric scooter and detonated outside an apartment building in the Russian capital.   Ukraine has claimed the attack which marks one of the boldest targeted assassinations of a senior military official since Russia’s full-scale invasion of the country.   Kirillov is the head of the military’s chemical, biological and radiological weapons unit.   He died along with his assistant when the blast went off as the two men left a building in a residential area in south-east Moscow on Tuesday.   A source in Ukraine’s SBU security service said Kyiv was behind the attack.   Kirillov is the most senior Russian military official to be killed in an assassination away from the frontline since the start of Russian offensive in Ukraine nearly three years ago...

NAIRA SCARCITY: CBN Fixes N100,000 As Limit For POS Withdrawal

  The  Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ordered banks in Nigeria to set N100,000 per day as a withdrawal limit for customers on point-of-sale (POS) terminals nationwide. The order was given amid cash scarcity.   The apex bank disclosed this in a recent circular to all Nigerian banks, titled Cash-out limits for agent banking transactions,’ which outlines other measures.   CBN said the restriction is in line with the apex bank’s ongoing efforts to advance a cashless economy.   According to the circular, the interventions aim to address identified challenges, combat fraud, and establish uniform operational standards across the industry.   “Issuers shall set a cash withdrawal limit (cash-out) per customer (regardless of channel) to N500,000.00 per week. “To ensure that all agent banking terminals are set to a daily maximum transaction cash-out limit of N100,000.00 per customer. “Ensure that each agent’s daily cumulative cash-out limit shall not exceed N1,200,0...

  A bill seeking to prohibit the use of foreign currency in Nigeria has passed first reading in the House of Senate.   The bill was sponsored by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, Senator Ned Nwoko.   The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Alter the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, No. 7, to Prohibit the Use of Foreign Currencies for Remuneration and Other Related Matters,” passed first reading on Monday.   Recall that the proposed legislation is aimed at ensuring all payments including salaries and other transactions are done using the local currency, naira.   According to Senator Nwoko, the widespread use of foreign currencies in the country’s financial system undermines the value of the Naira, which he said, perpetuates economic challenges.   The lawmaker described the use of the Dollar, Pound Sterling, and other foreign currencies for transactions in Nigeria as a colonial relic that continues to hinder Nigeria’s econ...

  A list of all the winners at the 2024 CAF awards has been released.   Recall that Nigeria and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman, South Africa’s Ronwen Williams and Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie were all among the biggest winners at this year’s Confederation of African Football (CAF), awards.   Nze  Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu, a former national vice chairman (South East) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),  has emerged  as the new President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Chukwu replaces Chief Emmanuel Iwuayanwu who died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, after a brief illness. He emerged during the Ime-Obi meeting held in Enugu yesterday.
